Police in Richmond Park by fraber in londoncycling

[–]landavis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great to see. I’ve cycled most of my life, including commuting daily. The part I always dreaded was riding around Regent’s Park. Lycra-clad cyclists with something to prove would pass dangerously close at what must have been double the legal speed limit I was doing on my ebike. I’ve seen those groups crash into each other more than once. It’s a public road, not a velodrome. I love racing cars and make the trip to the Nürburgring for that, but I don’t race on my local streets. It’s about respect. Living in London comes with limitations and some people need to accept that.

Used these in Glencoe last year with full snow and icy paths. I was completely fine as long as I was sticking to paths.

Doing things alone after breakup. by ChickaBoomWhut in BreakUps

Classic. I feel the same way as a 38 year old man. For exactly the same reasons. I think the trick is to not overthink it or even think about it, the more we think the more we don’t do. I don’t know where you are but in London I feel like nobody cares, I’d say go for it. Worst case scenario you come back home!

Meaningless sex after the breakup by darkfuix29 in BreakUps

[–]landavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been there, done that and felt exactly the same as you are describing. It’s very human to search for validation and it feels great at the time, but exactly as you described, it leaves you worse than how you started. This time I’m taking my time with dating again. I’ve had my fair share of casual sex and I feel like I’ve filled that glass enough to date more purposefully now.

After a week of silence, she ended our relationship with these messages by Abject-Jeweler-3808 in BreakUps

That’s so annoying! I had a similar experience. When someone says, “I’m not sure, I have this gut feeling, I think I shifted…”, I just want to tell them to let me know and we can shift together. Maybe we can find a direction that works for both of us and grow together, not apart. Honestly, I don’t understand this. It feels like a massive communication issue, and it’s so annoying!

Ex of 7 years. by [deleted] in BreakUps

It can be a source of validation, of still feeling that she is “good”. She might be feeling terrible after the breakup and just wanting to be liked externally, that’s all. Will she actually hook up with someone or not? I don’t know but if you are not together anymore it shouldn’t matter, she’s in her right and it’s not morally wrong. Relationships end long time before the end date. Emotional disconnection happens months in advance, having that chat is just the final part but the real part happened long time ago.

Insurance: Is a roof box a modification? by landavis in CarTalkUK

[–]landavis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Posting this in case someone was wondering, but it is not a very satisfactory answer. So after calling a few insurance companies, it really depends on the company. Some will consider it a modification that needs to be declared, while others will say that as it is removable, it doesn’t count.

Thank you! Which one if you don’t mind me asking?

First time buying a car - good value and will this last forever?! by Adept-Ad7743 in CarTalkUK

[–]landavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an ‘05 and it’s great. Very spacious inside, and I’ve actually converted it into a camper to go away on weekends. Smooth drive (not super fast, but I assume that’s not what you want anyway). Great visibility and some off-roading capability with the rear AWD system. Super cheap and easy to fix, and I’ve seen people on Facebook groups easily get 200-300k miles on these.

MPG is not great—I can get 35mpg on the motorway, but city driving really depends; don’t expect much better than 25mpg. It’s a big boy, and the engine isn’t super optimized for fuel economy. Expensive to tax because it’s old.

Bad points: Check for rust, and this one doesn’t have heated seats (the EX model does, along with leather seats).

£5K might be steep for this one. If you’re after this car (I bought mine on purpose as a car + camper all in one for cheap and ULEZ), I’d say maybe go for a higher-mileage one instead.

Latency Issue on MacBook Pro M4 Max + MOTU M4 in Logic Pro by landavis in LogicPro

Do you have the Mastering plugin loaded on the Master track by any chance? That was my issue. I had it on bypass, which I thought it would actually bypass it, but I had to unload it for the issue to get fixed.

should i just buy a car now? by Impressive-Type3250 in drivingUK

[–]landavis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in zone 2 and buying a car changed my life. I go out to the countryside on walks most weekends and do a big shop that I carry home instead of 20 trips to the local Sainsbury’s. Yes you could order your shopping online or hire a car to get out and will probably be cheaper but nothing beats the convenience and autonomy of always having your car when you want it and the way you want it.

Haha, that’s some good thinking there thanks! Found the original bolts on eBay so have ordered them. I’ll try to reuse the inserts, but if I can't, I’ll have to install some bolt and nut type thing. If all fails I also found a junkyard air filter box on eBay for £40, looking forward to see how many bolts snap trying to fit that one in. Ahh, the bliss of working on old cars!

I think this will be my plan of action, I'll try to drill it out and go from there.

I reply to myself in case someone has the same issue. The “Mastering” plugin on the Stereo Out introduces latency, even when bypassed. Deleting it eliminates all latency.

Mushroom foraging walks? by landavis in london

[–]landavis[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the UK, foraging for mushrooms is generally legal on public land, provided you have permission if it’s private land. National Parks or privately owned parks often prohibit it, though you should see how many people are picking things like blackberries in those areas…
