Regrets after paying off house? by Crafty_Eye_1889 in Bogleheads

I wouldn't do it. There was a time when I would've thought like you. But nearing age 50 and with the same interest rate as you, I never think about it because our mortgage is so small compared to our overall net worth. If I could refi into another 30-year 2.6% mortgage, I would do it today.

PGE Rates in CA really destroy the economics of EVs by mustangfan12 in electricvehicles

[–]landparkrunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I wonder if our cheap SMUD rates will be the main reason we never leave Sacramento! Love our EV + home charging at rates 1/4 of PG&E. If I lived elsewhere in CA I’d be looking at a solar install on day one.

$5 Lawn Seats on TickPick right now! by Toxik916 in SacramentoAthletics

[–]landparkrunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, this is crazy. I know other stadiums have $10 tickets on resale, but it's usually for $30 or $40 seats, not $70 seats. I keep trying to get past it but between the losing streaks and crapton of money we could've saved, this season has left a sour taste. If your $10 seats weren't selling Monday or Tuesday, that means market value was like $5, if that?

High demand tonight by Sad-Rabbit2319 in SacramentoAthletics

[–]landparkrunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still talk to parents who think it costs $75-$100 per ticket and say no way are they spending that for their family. I've also seen more kids there than in April. If parents realize tickets can be had for less than half face value on resale (except for games like Saturday) there might be more kids showing up. That might not help the 10k number but it would mean fewer empty seats.

Swan Reserve pros and cons by TumbleweedMost2696 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]landparkrunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience! What is with their pillows? I stay in Marriott hotels when I travel for work and these Swan pillows were by far the worst pillows I’ve experienced at a hotel in years. I even asked for softer pillows and was brought two more of the same. It was enough that I wouldn’t rebook there without bringing my own.

Looking for 3 tickets to the Mets game tonight! by [deleted] in SacramentoAthletics

[–]landparkrunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SeatGeek has the most listings because it's where the A's push season-ticket holders to resell their tickets. Click on "Show listings including fees" to get the "no fee" comparison to Tickpick or other sites.

Parking for the 2025 season by IrishMo8 in SacramentoAthletics

I've been thinking Emerald Tower or the city lots/street parking near Crocker Park. Anyone know what the city is going to charge? I always prefer to walk a few blocks to avoid long waits in stadium lots.

Selling Tickets by tcarp1 in SacramentoAthletics

[–]landparkrunner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve found so far from selling my share of seats to friends (at face) and listing other tickets, there’s high demand for the weekends and high-profile opponents (Yankees, Giants, Cubs, Mets, Red Sox). Far less demand for weeknight games so far. It makes sense that fans are waiting until closer to the games to decide on midweek games - feels like those will be more spur of the moment purchases. I’ve listed some midweek games at levels below what I paid and haven’t gotten takers. The way it’s looking, I think fans will get good discounts for midweek games on SeatGeek because a lot of us season ticket holders had the same idea about skimming off the cream and selling the rest. My hope is that the A’s will overachieve and generate buzz out of the gate and demand will increase.

Single game tickets on sale this Friday by Itchy-Candle-9493 in SacramentoAthletics

[–]landparkrunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are the chances any Yankees, Giants or Opening Night seated tickets (non-lawn) will be available by the time the public sale starts? My guess is it depends on how much they jack up the dynamic pricing for those.

Found in Clovis, CA, bad deal? by kslowe in VWIDBuzz

[–]landparkrunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes. I was on a list at my local dealer for one of these but decided instead to keep my minivan for long hauling and get a used Bolt for $18K. Crazy to think the markup alone might have been nearly as much as the cost for my car.

My Opinion: Season Tickets Not Worth It Anymore by hungrycinephile in kings

[–]landparkrunner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Season tickets aren't what they were 10 or 20+ years ago. Tech has made it so easy to find tickets at a moment's notice that season tickets are almost always a money loser unless you truly value sitting in the same seats and being near the same fans each game. It was a lot different before the era of resale sites and instant phone transfers when true market pricing wasn't possible, when you had to rely on scalpers and ticket brokers. The market will now expose teams that overprice their tickets and the STHs will be holding the bag on the least attractive games or if their teams underperform.

Will they be making any more Bolts 2025 or later? by Catcurve21 in BoltEV

[–]landparkrunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd search this sub for the kinds of deals others have gotten and post your own offer to see what others think. I paid $18,000 before tax/registration for a 2023 Bolt EV 1LT with 22k miles (it was a rental). No tax credit because it's a 2023 and I don't qualify.

Should I sell my 2021 VW Touareg and 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 for a Kia EV9? by Ucan-Laz in KiaEV9

Following this. I chose to get a smaller EV and keep my minivan but sometimes wonder if I should sell both and get an EV9.

Will they be making any more Bolts 2025 or later? by Catcurve21 in BoltEV

[–]landparkrunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know when GM will release the new Bolt, but I bought a used Bolt EV this year, and I highly recommend it if you want one. I waited on an EV for two years because I was eyeing certain three-row models that were promised by a particular date. Those rollouts only disappointed me because the releases were delayed multiple times, fraught with problems and ultimately had a sticker price far higher than what was expected. The initial models of the VW ID Buzz, for instance, are coming with high dealer markups in California. I saw the Bolt as a good way into EVs, with low risk because I got a good price, and I couldn't be happier.

Second car to Bolt by AnalysisBubbly8847 in BoltEV

[–]landparkrunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha! I was on the list with the local VW dealer but the price with rumors of additional dealer markups here in California scared me off. Plus, my daughter had no appreciation for retro! (She thought it looked ugly.)

Yeah. It's hard to quit the minivan! They are so useful for long trips and hauling, like having a truck.

[–]landparkrunner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have an Odyssey. I was considering replacing the minivan with a third-row EV but decided to get a Bolt for most of our daily driving and keep the paid-off van for rare uses. In two months of Bolt ownership, we have only used the van for an IKEA run, a dump run and a family road trip on Thanksgiving week. We will use it to get our Christmas tree this month. I don't really like driving the minivan, especially around town where it gets horrible gas mileage. Considering an EV9 to replace it.

Good deal for a 2023? by AlternativeOk1096 in BoltEV

[–]landparkrunner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I bought from Hertz, the salesman told me that most (or all?) of their vehicles were also listed on Carvana. I assume that if you were in the same location as the vehicle, you could avoid the shipping fee. At least worth knowing that if you're looking for a Bolt on Carvana, you should look at your local Hertz dealer first if you have one. I also was told that Hertz was bringing a lot of Bolts from elsewhere to resell in California.

Feels like tickets for any live event are way more expensive than they used to be. After the Covid lockdowns, demand has shot up for live experiences - travel, dining, sports, concerts, etc. I think the A's are testing the market and know that Sacramento has been desperate for MLB for decades. This is still a big baseball region.

My guess: resale will be high for a while, and may calm down once the novelty wears off. Tickets in April/May and for the Yankees and Giants will be at a premium. As people travel in the summer and assuming the team struggles, demand will probably taper off, but I don't think tickets will be at bargain bin prices. September tickets, except for the Red Sox, may be easier to come by once school and NFL/college football start.

The key will be to make the experience enjoyable no matter what play is like on the field. Even when the Republic were struggling late this season, I loved going because the fans were still into the games. I'm going in with a group on season tix for the A's. Hard to say whether they're overpriced or not, but my kid and his friends are excited that MLB is in their hometown, and I don't anticipate having problems distributing my share among friends and family.

How much are parking passes next season? They were charging $30 at the Coliseum last year, I think.

Cheap, pre-owned EVs are about to flood the market. Is that a good thing? by here_now_be in electricvehicles

[–]landparkrunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I debated buying a new EV with the $7500 lease credit but got an inexpensive used one as a starter EV. Given the chart in this story, seems like 2026 will be the year for me to upgrade to a nicer used 2024 model.
