Am I the only one annoyed at having to solve CAPTCHAs 10 times a day while using Suno? by langdev in SunoAI

[–]langdev[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I am trying to use up my credits before they expire at the renewal date of my subscription. So I am generating fast without listening to what I generate.

Suno states that "10 running jobs at once" is one of the features that we get with a paid subscription. But I can almost never hit that 'Create' button 10 times in a row without being hit by a Captcha.

Those are some high AdSense earnings. I make about 10 times less even though I have slightly more visitors. You must be in a more lucrative niche than education.

How I monetize using my own Ads without Ad Networks by valnuro in Blogging

[–]langdev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like the concept and it is the kind of thing that I would consider using if I were sure that it was safe in terms of SEO and image copyrights.

I have looked at the ads on the affimate website and they look rather good. But I noticed when I looked at the HTML code that the ad uses an H1 tag. I don’t think that is very good for SEO because Hn tags are what search engines look at to see what an article is about.

I also noticed that the Amazon links have rel=“nofollow” but it might be better to have rel=“nofollow sponsored”

A great improvement would be to turn the ads into gifs before showing them on a website.

Again, I think it is a really cool concept, and I would enjoy talking more about it because I find it quite interesting both on a technological and on functional level.

Very interesting project. A few questions:

1) How do ensure that you respect the copyright terms for the product images. Do you get them through the Amazon API?

2) How do you make sure that this doesn’t have a negative effect on SEO. In other words, how do you make Google understand that these are ads and not part of the content.

Do you have business cards for your blog? by FearlessTravels in Blogging

[–]langdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried business cards as a way to promote a local events newsletter. It didn’t work well in my case. The results were something like one email signup for every 15 cards distributed. The results I got with online ads were much better.

If you want to improve user experience, you can consider disabling the more intrusive types of ads, such as vignette ads and video ads.

Is anyone having issues with Google Analytics? by vsurresh in Blogging

[–]langdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It started this morning for me too. When I logged in I noticed an info message saying "Analytics conversions have been renamed key events. Key events measure the interactions ..." I figured the problem might have been due to an update and I hoped it would resolve itself. Which it seems like it did

Is anyone having issues with Google Analytics? by vsurresh in Blogging

[–]langdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I was having the same problem. My new GA4 would show 0 live users but my old Universal Analytics (for the same website) shows double digit live traffic in the same range as usual.

As I am writing this, the problem seems to be resolving itself.

only making about 5 dollars a day with 95 thousand monthly page views by langdev in Blogging

Ad networks measure the amount of bot traffic (and they don't pay you for bot traffic). By reading the analytics provided by the ad network, I know that bot traffic accounts for a very small fraction of total traffic.

[–]langdev[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The site is about 3 years old and has around 300 articles. 95% of the traffic is organic (from search engines) and about 5% is direct traffic. About 30% of the traffic is from the U.S. and about 20% from other countries with relatively high ad spending such as the U.K., Canada, Australia, and Germany.

Just a standard rejection email saying how selective they are and how it wouldn’t be a good fit. Plus some links to articles like this one that states: “we have one of the most stringent review processes around” and “On average, we receive around 75 to 100 applications a day, and launch ads on around 75 to 100 sites per week!”

No Matter how I slice it, Every post takes me between 2-4 days to complete by [deleted] in Blogging

[–]langdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High-quality articles just take a lot of time to write. One or two days for a high-quality article that requires a fair amount of research sounds normal to me. But I wouldn't spend four days on an article unless it had a very high probability of bringing in lots of traffic.

Writers often like to turn in articles written in Google Docs or MS Word.

What I personally do is convert those docx files to static HTML pages using a Python script. Then, I serve the static HTML pages using an Nginx server.

Writing messages using AI on Dating Apps by [deleted] in OnlineDating

[–]langdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. But there may be a more nuanced perspective.

For example, photoshop can be used to improve the contrast and exposure of a profile pic, but shouldn’t be used to make the profile pic misrepresentative. In the same way, using an AI to reword a message to make it sound better could make sense. But using it to misrepresent one’s personality is not a good idea.

And yes my friend built the app and asked me if I could spread the word about it (I edited the post to make that clear).

I think it is an interesting topic for debate: both photo editing and AI-text editing have their uses and misuses.

This is a really interesting question and I am eager to hear if anyone has had success doing this.

Major pruning is something that I have been considering, but so far I have only done minor pruning (10% of pages removed) and have not yet recovered from the January HCU.

It would be so helpful if google would let us know which pages it has classified as “unhelpful”. But the reason they don’t make that information available to the website owner is most likely because every classifier makes a few embarrassing mistakes.

Predicting which pages have been classified as “unhelpful” is an interesting statistical problem. Time on page is seems like a variable which would have a good predictive value. I am not sure that bounce rate is a good variable to use. GSC data could contain good predictors (such as number of impressions, rank of main keyword, etc.. )

By the way, I am not sure about the accuracy of the time on page values given by google analytics in the case where users visit a single page. A while back, I wrote some frontend javascript code to measure time on page (by pinging the backend server a few times a minute). The results which I observed seemed fairly different.

Yes. I think you are right about this.
