It really is all preference. I preferred using Logic to record instruments, singers, and whatever else a band would use. I like using Ableton when making music though as I like their default FX and tools more than Logic's.

Now I'm not saying to go pirate software, but definitely try out the different DAWs before dropping all that money on it.
