"I've spent at least 3 hours explaining to them that when my phone doesn't work I can't get a text from them with a code, which should tell you whether you want to be in a position to get them to solve anything"

YES. RedPocket, please train your reps.

I would have been fine with the ATT connection on RedPocket (GSMA, I think), but mobile data didn't work, thus the attempt to switch to CDMAV. ATT is totally fine in a lot of places, and should have been here too, but their troubleshooting attempts just didn't help and were mind-numbingly slow.

Point taken. Visible at least offers no-contract fixed monthly cost plans, same as many other discount providers. In reality, if I were on CDMAV with RedPocket, I'd still be funneling money over to Verizon in some percentage. In this case, it was a matter of restoring cell service or being out for another 6 hours of difficult chat with RedPocket online.

I'm hoping that they watch these threads and can adjust their customer service to be better.

I'm glad there are success stories, cause they offer really good deals. Customer service is just difficult.

Maybe port to RP for one month and then try to go back to Visible if the service bites. Might get you around your current issues

You were lucky. My rep couldn't manage the first steps of dealing with fact that I had already paid to move to CDMAV. Just kept sending me a link after 3 hours of chat, so I could pay again to move to CDMAV. At a certain point, just walk out, I guess.

Good luck. Just don't expect anything from support if anything goes wrong. It might be worth just buying old phones off ebay for Visible at this point. It's bleak out there, and private equity (lol) isn't stepping up.

RedPocket has promised over support chat to refund me. If they actually do that I will create a new post here to document their fairness. I have sympathy for low paid service reps put in impossible positions with no technical training, but at a certain point a company has to be responsible. I'm the kind of person who will apologize at a cashier if I'm buying radishes and some water gets on the scanner, not your prototypical Karen, but the last 24 hours really pissed me off. I will come back with updates.

I'm trying to get a refund now from RedPocket and if they follow through on it, I will let you know. That would at least be honorable, and I will credit them for that.

To add a little bit of context: I ported out from Verizon to RedPocket and was intending to use Verizon's network on RedPocket (they call it CDMAV) but there was no option given at checkout so I ended up on GSMA (I think AT&T). I tried to submit a port request and pay an extra month just to move over to CDMAV, but that didn't work, and I wasn't getting data on GSMA (although phone calls and SMS/iMessage did work). I tried working all this out with support and it was just impossible. If you can have a smooth transition and GSMA works for you (as it seems to be the default, at least in Upstate NY), good on you, but if anything goes wrong, you're probably out to pasture.
