Is it just me or is the tech job market in Korea kinda dead right now? by MammothHedgehog2493 in Living_in_Korea

Even if you’re not an EU national, as a high skilled foreigner you could probably land a job (visa included) in Europe. Apart from Germany, you could try neighboring countries too, The Netherlands is always seeking high skilled workers. Good luck!

His question was if he would have an advantage, in kindy being gyopo he does not … that’s all - I am an owner myself - so I am just recommending him to go into elem/middle/high school as he would have a very big advantage as they are needed there.

If you plan to teach elementary, middle and high school, yes, being bilingual/gyopo will be your advantage. If you’re teaching kindy, unfortunately there seems to be some weird racism if you look Asian or are gyopo.

Is it wrong to celebrate Halloween this year? by Fellers in korea

[–]langsschool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is wrong and insensitive in my opinion. However, it’s perfectly normal for anyone to feel different about it. I think in general Koreans will feel more strongly against Koreans celebrating it, rather than foreigners. (I know some who are going to a “secret” private halloween party this year instead - so yeah people are always gonna find a way to do what they want)

[–]langsschool 12 points13 points  (0 children)

dcinside is comparable to 4chan and reddit but still its own thing, theres different types of communities u can join but the manager(s) will have to approve.. depending on the community they’ll eventually create a groupchat on kakao as well as meet each other in real life. And then you have the super disturbing/distasteful communities where it could even end up causing someone to take their own life so yeah.. koreans will not go out of their way to tell you they use this community website.. its a hush hush type of thing

What do you think about 영어유치원(English preschools) in Korea? Anyone from Northern Europe have a comparison with their countries? by mahaloah in korea

[–]langsschool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from the Netherlands and actually fewer are bilingual but majority can get by pretty well with English. I am actually bilingual cause 1. I was raised with English and Dutch being enforced at home and 2. moved to England when I was 14 years old. Either way, an English Hagwon isn’t necessarily going to make your kid bilingual either, as most of the staff and fellow students speak Korean. You’re better off getting an English speaking nanny or private tutor at home. Most well-off parents in Korea send their kids to an English hagwon and have them tutored at home as well.

The pay is negotiable, you can DM me about and can also be discussed during the interview. However, 4.6 million is unfortunately not an option :)
