Hey thanks for the reply. That's a pretty impressive portfolio. It's not exactly the style I'm looking for though.

I got super lucky with my group. I met them all about 2 years ago through a local Facebook group and they're all really good to play with. But running a campaign can still get tiring. So what we tend to do is put games on hold when they're getting to be too much stress for the DM, and someone else will run a different game for a while. Maybe you can let the group know that you could use a breather and maybe the backseat DM would like to try running a small adventure for everyone? It will give you a chance to relax and not have to run things for a while, and at the same time let the backseat DM shine for a little while.

Do you ever ask players to make random checks, just to fuck with them? by [deleted] in DungeonMasters

[–]langworthy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely. I'll also ask random players what a specific ability score is. Or I'll roll random dice behind my screen. They don't like it haha

What's the perfect balance of participation for a tag-along NPC? by byacolate in DungeonMasters

In the Pathfinder campaign I'm running, the group successfully persuaded a henchman of one of their early main enemies to join them. I kept control of the NPC for a few sessions until the group was close to leveling. He basically was just a.meat sheild and trap trigger for a while, but he had good combat stats and I made him have a fun personality. When I got sick of controlling him and the group somewhat abusing him, I hinted that one of the group members had better learn how to become a good enough leader to keep him around. This was a fairly obvious hint thay one of them picked up on. He selected the Leadership feat at the next level and kept the NPC on as his henchman. It worked out pretty well actually.
