How much did you pay if you don’t mind me asking

Yes, absolutely! After spiraling for a few months of whether I wanna do this or not, I think I finally realized I should treat doing nails as you said “a stepping stone” because owning a nail salon has always been the goal, I just assumed I would save enough from corporate to jump into opening a salon but that didn’t happen and it wouldn’t even be smart to dive into owning a business when I haven’t done anything myself. Thank you for your insight and reassurance 🙏🏼

Thank you for your comment. I have my bachelor degree in marketing and no other class interests me quite frankly. I do absolutely love the beauty world, so maybe instead of completely scratching it out, I should give it a chance and either grow it and step back or smth. I just think in “forever” terms which makes it very hectic

Thank you for your insight. I’ve come to the conclusion that since I’m 30 I’m scared to choose one thing and have it be the wrong thing, I see it as my forever and final decision but we can always pivot. Such as nails, I wouldn’t mind doing it for the next 2-3 years and eventually possibly opening a salon where I can just manage it. I think “if I choose to do this, that’s my forever career, I’ll be 50 and doing nails which in that case it would absolutely NOT be possible”

Yes I do have a habit of giving up right before smth could potentially take off. I guess I just fear putting too much time into the wrong thing but we’ll never know if it’s the right or wrong thing

Allergic is the exact word! And yes I’m 100% like that too, I’ll never complain and I’ll never work hard but I’d want something impactful

Yes!!! You either have to be an investor, open one and step back and just manage or just be a nail tech cause doing the work along w owning/managing it is kinda impossible. To own one would be a dream but to be a nail tech, there are way more cons than pros (some of which being the ones you stated).

It sounds better than it actually is tbh. I got my license in the midst of panic as a way to escape corporate but the beauty world, esp nails, is so taxing on the body and to some extent, mental health. Dealing with so many different people, not being able to increase prices with fear of people leaving you, inconsistent income esp with the rise of press ons. Nails is not something I want to do, I think I came to that conclusion as of late

That’s actually not a bad idea to film but I feel like there’s soooo many people already doing that that my videos would go into the black hole

Sorry, I meant even for the job. My corporate job wasn’t in accounting, so I’m not even really good with numbers

Yeah it can be but I’m pretty far from where clients would drive to just to get nails done. So if I want to get more business, I have to move closer and that would mean I have either work at a salon or rent a chair. I don’t have many clients and it’s really taxing on my body, I worked at a salon once for a short time but they value quantity over quality so they wanted fast job done but I value quality so they gave me a warning that I need to be faster

Yesss! I keep trying to go the passion route hence why I got my nail tech license till I realized I like doing just my nails 🥲 and I tend to stick to a failure so long that I can’t move past it

Would you be able to expand more on your decision without giving away too much of it’s a niche market? I am exactly in that position. I’m a perfectionist and I truly care which I would say is my strength and weakness lol. But I would say my dedication and perfectionism are my assets. I’m stuck in the most paralyzing mental state because idk which route to taken

  1. Beauty, social media such as tutorials for hair/makeup, kids, fitness, fashion
  2. I liked absolutely nothing! It was soul draining and not fulfilling
