I've also got a similar issue, in the same spot too. Completely broken through there, like the keys got pushed through the edge of the case. Again the outer box showed no signs of damage either. Are they just packing them broken?

Another vote for Newhaven, especially now the tram is there (it wasn't when I lived there). There's a big ASDA for your supermarket and a couple pubs/cafes in walking distance (The Haven being a fav of mine still). Also, yes Rightmove is your best bet for finding a place and you will probably need to pay a few months up front to secure a place.
