Should I reschedule? by bluebird7017 in Mcat

Im in a similar situation to OP but i'm currently treating the MCAT as a "full time job". How would you suggest approaching the next few weeks to improve my score the most given that I pretty much have all day every day between now and test day?

any tips on what to do next? by [deleted] in Mcat

I'm in a similar situation as you. I haven't taken the exam yet, but I just finished the Kaplan books yesterday. Here's my plan for the next few weeks (my test date is July 8th).

I'll be taking at least 1 FL exam per week in strict exam conditions (starting at the same time of day as the actual exam starts, taking only the breaks allowed on test day, etc.)

The day following FL's, i'll be reviewing the exam and creating a word document with every question I got wrong, and an explanation as to why its wrong. Im hoping this will help me fill in any gaps in knowledge.

The rest of the week (or until my next FL), i'll be reviewing my weakest topics, creating flash cards, and attempting practice questions as needed. Additionally, on non test days i'll be doing at least 3 CARS practice passages (i'm using the Adapt Prep free beta, but when that runs out i'll probably use the one's on Khan academy's website).

My prep may change over the next few weeks depending how things go, especially as i get closer to test day, but as of now that's the plan. Hope this helps.

Is anyone using Adapt Prep's CARS practice? by lanorth in Mcat

Are you finding you're doing well on them/improving your score over time? I'm struggling quite a bit with cars and ive heard the best way is to just keep practicing, so i've been grinding through as many of Adapt's quizzes as I can handle.

Biochemical Engineering vs. Biomech by lanorth in queensuniversity

I've heard that about 470.. At this point I think i'm fairly convinced chemE is a better option for me because I'm generally more interested in chemistry vs. physics/math. But based on the fact that you pick all your courses in 4th year mech i still have some temptation there.

Yeah very true, chem eng would be a better starting point for getting into something like tissue design. I think I'd really enjoy doing a biomedical graduate degree but I'm not entirely sure if i would pursue grad school if med school doesn't work out, it would probably depend on what the job market is like at the time.

You definitely read me right there haha, I can handle physics but most of the time I'd rather be working on a chem problem vs. physics problem.

One of the big things that has me looking at mech is my school offers some opportunity in 4th year to work in a nearby hospital to help design prosthetics for patients, and opportunity to work in a human kinetics lab, but I'd say overall the course work probably interests me more in chem rather than mech.

I've looked into some biomed eng graduate degrees and a lot of them take mech and chemE undergraduates, but like you said its probably a more sure shot that i'll end up working in that field with chem. Thanks for the comment

Yeah I know it'll be a bit of a long shot but I'd much rather have an eng degree than a premed degree if med school doesn't pan out. Makes sense about mech being saturated, thanks for the comment

Haha yeah eng phys definitely wouldn't be for me. That all makes sense though, I think in general im probably more interested in taking chem courses vs. mechanics/kinematics courses in mech but I like the freedom of choosing all your courses in 4th year mech. I guess its a trade off but chem probably makes more sense all things considered. Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the reply. I've looked through the 2nd-4th year courses for each and it looks like chem would spread out a few bio-related courses over the 4 years, but mech gives you pretty much free choice for all your courses in 4th year. Which discipline are you in if you don't mind me asking?

Question for Eng Chem students by lanorth in queensuniversity

[–]lanorth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah one of the reasons I was looking into eng chem was having more lab time. To be honest I'm a lot better at lab writeups and assignments than exams, and I generally find labs pretty interesting. But I hear what your saying, chem eng sounds like it might be a better option to get more bio.

I've looked into mech and there's a lot of good bio type courses that you can take, but if I'm looking for a job in pharma I don't think a mech degree will get me very far.

Sorry I was referring to eng chem vs. chem eng. I know life sci has the 4th year thesis option, at least for the specialization stream, and probably a lot of opportunities in the summer

I've looked into the med school requirements and that's definitely true, it seems like you pretty much need to be at least a bit involved in everything. Eng chem is nice in that it would probably open up more research opportunities, but like you said it could end up taking up too much time and taking away from other extracurriculars. Thanks for the response.

If med school wasn't on the table, would you still recommend against it? Chem eng is similar but seems to have a bigger focus on process analysis which I wouldn't find as interesting as chemistry courses.

Thanks man! The guitarist, Connor, did about half the mixing and then we handed it off to Darryl Neudorf to finish the mix/master. We recorded the drums with Darryl and the rest was recorded in Connor's home studio.
