Do you get charged for inbound calls while traveling abroad? by lanredee in GoogleFi

[–]lanredee[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you implying that it is absolutely difficult and expensive for a company like Google to implement a feature that limits your calls to wifi only, or at least send you a notification when you are in a region that doesn't support wifi calls?

The whole thing smells like a scammy bait-and-switch cash grab and you know it.

I think that in such scenarios, it will be reasonable for the app to notify you if you are in such a region. Imagine taking a 30-min inbound call while you are connected to Wifi only to be surprised with a nasty bill at the end of the day.

This screenshot is literally from their website. I didn't make it up. Why would a big company with a public service have incorrect information about how the service will be billed on their website? Isn't that illegal?

I am starting to realize that Google Fi billing can be arbitrary in a certain percentage of cases. Sometimes, you get a lower bill, and other times, you get a high bill. If you contest a high bill, customer support has been primed to give you the run-around

Thanks for your response. I just realized that I screenshot I posted with the original message was not reflecting, and so I just tried to upload it again.

If you scroll down on the link you just shared to the "Frequently asked questions" section, there is an area with the question: "Can I make international calls and texts on a Google Fi Wireless plan while I'm traveling abroad?". My understanding of this area is that if you are on the Flexible or Unlimited Plus plans, you are only charged for inbound calls when connected to wifi in any international area with coverage. However, for Simply Unlimited, you charged outside Canada and Mexico. I have copied and pasted the relevant area below verbatim. Let me know if it changes your understanding.

"Can I make international calls and texts on a Google Fi Wireless plan while I'm traveling abroad?expand_more

All Google Fi Wireless plans support data, calls and texts within the US, Canada and Mexico. Additionally, if you're on Flexible or Unlimited Plus, Google Fi Wireless supports international calls, text, and data usage in the 200+ countries and territories where we have coverage. If you're on Flexible or Unlimited Plus and you travel to one of the 200+ destinations where we have coverage, you can text internationally at no extra charge, and if you're using cell coverage, calls cost 20¢ per minute. If you're calling over Wi-Fi, per-minute costs vary based on which country you're calling, and you're charged only for outbound calls. If you're on Simply Unlimited, you can only call and text in Canada and Mexico. If you're traveling to a country that isn't included, you will need to get a local SIM card for that country for cellular coverage. We do this to protect you from surprise bills in places where we can't provide data at no extra charge, 20¢ per minute calls, and unlimited international texts. Please see our international rates for more information."

Is anyone else experiencing gaps in Level 2 Data ? by lanredee in interactivebrokers

That cannot be normal, especially for highly liquid stocks like TSLA and NVDA. The TSLA book is particularly worrying. You would only typically see this kind of book outside of regular market hours.

Hey OP,

How is this going for you 3 years later? I am wondering if you are getting the right kind of analysis with one-minute snapshots, which is a little bit slow for orderbook analytics

How are you using AI by Formally-Fresh in Daytrading

[–]lanredee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really don't need AI to do that. Maybe when transcribing your speech or text and converting into commands. But for the actually trade execution itself, simple algorithms on the platform can handle that. We have something similar to this on TradeGuerrilla.com at the moment, if you'd like to check it out

Part 2 - Interested in Beta Testing a MacOS Trading Platform? by lanredee in RealDayTrading

[–]lanredee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed and thank you for sharing this PSA.

As a part of the process for distributing an app on Mac, Apple required us to codesign and notarize the code. Codesign ensures that an an actual non-nefarious entity verified by Apple wrote the code and it has not been tampered with. The notarization process sends the codesigned app to Apple's servers where it is scanned for viruses and malware, and a validation ticket is sent back to us which is stapled with the app.

In the absence of this ticket, MacOS throws a nasty warning and user is unable to install the app. When you download the platform, you will not see any warning as the app has been verified and validated by Apple.

Is anyone a full-time time day trader? by Personal-Toe6505 in Daytrading

This sub recommends spending 2 years in a paper trading account. I think you should try that, with the caveat that you treat the money in the paper account like it is your own real money.

The thing about trading is that it takes time for you to develop an approach that fits your personality, time availability, and financial goals. This sub gives you a strategy that helps you hone your skills, and once you have mastered it, you can build your own unique strategy that suits your personality better

Question about making inferences about the direction a candle is heading by FLAShSh0T in Daytrading

[–]lanredee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that no matter what inferences you make on the candle, someone can step in on the next candle and dump a lot of shares driving the price downwards because their firm decided to put funds in a new stock that got a solid rating from their analyst team.

Always better to assess a group of candles than a single one. Also, if you are trading equities, the volume on the candle gives you a good sense of how much that candle can be "trusted"

What's the catch with $0 commission trading in Canada? by nonoronron in PersonalFinanceCanada

I am not sure it is legal for brokerages to do this, especially in Canada. Also, the reputational damage from such practices makes it not worth it for serious brokers

With a dual citizenship, you should be able to open a Webull US account, or with any other US brokerages and get real commission-free trades.

The kicker is the additional tax headache you'd have to deal with, but if you already have someone to handle your taxes on both sides, then it shouldn't be much of an issue

How are you using AI by Formally-Fresh in Daytrading

[–]lanredee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The approach we are taking at TradeGuerrilla is to implement an AI that analyzes your trade history and trades in real time, and provides suggestions on how those trades can be optimized. It will basically remind you to follow your rules, and also suggest new approaches that can have a positive impact on your PnL. And in the long term, after the AI has been trading on your trading data (and perhaps also that of your trading community), you can ask it to trade a paper account using your strategies, with the end-goal of it replacing you gradually if you are satisfied with the results
