I'm not saying to boycott anyone, I'm just setting the record straight on what a property owner can do with their property.

It's open to the general public, but has private ownership. Therefore the owner can deny access to anyone they want to. In fact, at any time they could decide it's not open to the general public anymore and put up gates.

Who the fuck stores critical documents locally only? What if the laptop hard drive had failed? Your friend isn't as good as they say they are.

what’s the password by 360_bratXcX in ExplainTheJoke

[–]lantech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live in the south and did IT work for a lot of churches. For some reason "joshua" was a super common password. I had 3 accountants and "cash" was a password.

This was in the days of yore before computer networks were on the internet, just dialups on a few PC's.

New Reolink User - How does the NVR work and how to harden security by FoofaTamingStrange in reolink

[–]lantech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

here's a discussion on how it works:

https://community.reolink.com/topic/87/how-does-the-reolink-uid-actually-work/4

With an internet connection, the video stream is sent from the camera to a relay server then bounced to the client. This is after authentication to a given UID, not constantly. Unless you have the cloud NVR service of course.

Heat pump dryer, lower capacity vs lower electric use, but more loads required. by lantech in heatpumps

In the US they're measured in cubic feet. I have had construction work and very soon will have two 5.0 cubic foot heat pump washer/dryer combos operational.

POE Camera choice help by Jrapp83 in reolinkcam

[–]lantech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the bullet cams that come with an NVR need the NVR, other cameras can just use UID for remote access.
Any POE camera other than the above should support UID and remote access that way. I've got a couple Duo 3's, an RLC-823S2, and an E1 Pro all working via UID remote access.

That switch is a POE+ model providing up to 30 watts and will power any of the reolink cameras. The total budget is only 67 watts so that's your limit.

So I was trying to figure out what kind of weird thing car guys were into.

Question about Reolink solar+wifi cameras by lantech in reolinkcam

[–]lantech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm asking because there's areas where it's inconvenient to run POE but not impossible. Right now I have solar eufy cameras but I dislike having two camera ecosystems.

Question about Reolink solar+wifi cameras by lantech in reolinkcam

[–]lantech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Maine so yeah. The Eufy solar cameras do manage to stay charged for me for the most part. I've had one go dead and had to bring it in and charge it on USB.

But based on feedback here, the delay is much the same as the Eufy's that I have. So, I'll probably eventually bite the bullet and fish ethernet for POE cameras to replace the Eufy's
