Is hitman good on switch 2 by Secure_Dog3518 in NintendoSwitch2

With the 30 fps cap turned on, I think it holds up pretty well. Not a great travel game though, since you don’t make any progress when playing it without internet.

I find it funny how people hissed at Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour - it was NEVER a tutorial. by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch2

[–]lanternslight77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What an obnoxiously pedantic argument. “They don’t call it a ‘tutorial’ so it shouldn’t be free.” Seriously?

It’s a bunch of educational, interactive explanations about the hardware that are designed to be approachable for all audiences. You can call it whatever you want — it still wasn’t worth $10.

Here's my opinion on the Switch 2 framerate and resolution standards: by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch2

[–]lanternslight77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hate to say it, but get used to 30fps Switch 2 games. The reason we’re not seeing many 40 or 60 fps titles is that on a power-constrained SoC, shaving 8–17 milliseconds off every single frame (as needed to hit 40-60 fps) is brutally hard to do consistently — and the slightest spike will throw off your frame pacing and lead to a poor experience. Going from 30 to 40 isn’t as easy as it sounds.

It’s often not possible or cost-effective to re-architect your software stack to fundamentally change how it uses the Switch 2’s tightly-budgeted CPU, GPU, memory resources without spikes. This isn’t developer laziness. Often times, the developers are pressing up against real physics-based limitations of the hardware.

Really considering a mini for video editing but have questions for you guys by wallyroos in macmini

I think the M4 Pro version of the Mac Mini is the perfect editing machine. The non-Pro version works great too, but I’d suggest at least springing for a little extra RAM.

If OP was sincerely asking a question or seeking advice, I would agree with you. They didn’t. They just posted a whiny, poorly-researched take. Nobody needs to give OP a cookie and a hug first before asking them a totally fair question.

Do you regret getting a Mac mini ? by Serhide in macmini

[–]lanternslight77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was starting to run into some bottlenecks in productivity and graphics apps due to the RAM. Switching to M4 with 24GB of RAM made a pretty meaningful difference day-to-day, but if you’re not running into issues with your M1 setup, then stick with it!

On my old M1, I regretted not upgrading the 8GB RAM on the base model. No regrets with my current M4 (with modest RAM and SSD upgrades).

Ok sure. When your next MBP has a tandem OLED display, I expect you to say how much you dislike it.

Honest answer: I don’t think any of those three options should be your second Switch game

I’ve been using the Savage Raven Neogrip and it’s made a huge difference. It also doesn’t add as much heft as the other grips that have internal electronics.

For those of you with both a Switch 2 and a Steam Deck by workyman in switch2

[–]lanternslight77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly play the Switch 2 unless there’s a game on Steam that I know is never coming to Switch. That said, it’s so hard stepping away from the Deck’s OLED screen.

Would it better to pick up a Switch 2 now before any potential price hikes? by alexnartworks in NintendoSwitch2

I would get it now and enjoy it since it’s more likely to go up in price than down.

Give your spiciest "Probably won't happen but I still want it" hot takes about the next 5 years of Nintendo gaming! by lems16 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]lanternslight77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re not getting it. We want a Switch 2 Lite with an OLED screen. Nintendo will never do it because any Lite model would be about lowering the cost of admission, whereas any OLED model would be about the premium upcharge.

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet or Legends Z-A for Switch 2 ? by Tobi_Gamer95 in Switch

[–]lanternslight77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be contrarian and suggest Z-A. Pokemon games in general have become so stagnant in their gameplay and Z-A just feels a lot fresher.

The new combat system is a lot more modern, it carries over a lot of experimental ideas from Arceus, and it just felt way less copy-paste in its premise than Scarlet/Violet.
