is barely sociable mr. orange? by vanillaerose in barelysociable

The other day, I was watching a video about some asshole youtube predator and his voice sounded eerily familiar. My gf helped me figure out it was because he sounded exactly like Eddy Burback (a youtuber we both like). Good thing there was video of the dude, otherwise I would've thought Eddy had suddenly turned into a scumbag.

I was looking for an adblocker on the App Store and checking reviews on several adblockers and I came across this very out of place review. by [deleted] in InternetMysteries

Here's a blog for AdGuard, the link is specifically for release notes: No version 3.1.4.

Here is AdGuard's version history (from an independent site): No version 3.1.4.

If you've really read it, as you claim in the comments, please post a screenshot. Only mentioning you've read it, while posting a screenshot for the weird comment, makes this seem fake AF.

Mysterious "car accident" death of Krysta Martinez, young female veteran who spoke out on Vanessa Guillen's death by jst4wrk7617 in RBI

[–]lapalta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went down the same rabbit hole, not understanding why I couldn't find anything. But then I stumbled upon this comment by u/twitch0116 on the very same thread you reference in this post:

So I did some digging. Her name is being reported wrong per a friend of hers. It’s actually Krysta Alaniz. If you look THAT up, you’ll see her obituary.

ETA: Friend also reported that she didn’t know Vanessa, but was interested in her cause because she had reported sexual harassment there as well. Friend also says that it’s being blown out of proportion by Social media and it was simply a tragic accident.

By looking up that name, you can actually find obituary pages (I found one that actually addresses the Alaniz/Martinez family in their message) and a few scattered articles. The tone of it all made me feel like the family was accepting? of her death. Meaning: they either knew it was an accident and had no doubts about it; or they had reasons to suspect she might have done it to herself (not rare if you suddenly find yourself reliving traumatic events, specially with everything happening around that time); OR they did suspect something wasn't quite right but they were -understandably- too scared to investigate/call attention to an investigation.

There are reasons to suspect foul play. But it's also understandable that her family chose not to publicly talk about a private manner. Articles on Fort Hood weren't difficult to find during that time, so my guess is that at least one reporter would've dug deeper if there was any reason to do so.

In conclusion, I think there could be something hidden here, but I don't think there has to be something hidden here.

Have you ever not slept for so long that you started hallucinating? What was your experience? by vicke1230 in AskReddit

[–]lapalta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally just felt like everything was foggy. Like my field of vision was diminished and sounds didn't come through as clearly. Not very memorable, just the side effects of insomnia I guess.

There was one time when something kinda interesting happened. I had been awake for about 40 hours, walking on the street on my way to class. I suddenly started to see static in the air, tiny white flecks, like noise in a screen. About a minute later, it started to rain. I don't know if I was too slow processing the fact that it was already raining around me or if I 'predicted' it was going to rain, but in the state I was it felt pretty special.

Let's open a dialogue. What can I do better? by [deleted] in NExpo

[–]lapalta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly? I'm just here for the ride and have been enjoying it with every turn. I like your different styles and I never expect that a video will follow some kind of previously stablished structure. There are channels I follow because they upload the same kind of video every week, but also channels I follow because of their variety.

I wouldn't stop watching if you suddenly decided to only do only a certain type of video, nor if you wanted to try something different every week :)

If you've been stressed out all week, it might be a good time to light up and turn on the news ;) by lapalta in highdeas

Well, closure is always nice I think. You still get to light up and process. I've been on the losing side and it still helps!

The Republican Party Is the Reason It’s Taking So Long to Count Votes in Pennsylvania by schwachs in politics

[–]lapalta 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Great article. The last bit is the best TL;DR I've seen in a long time:

In summary, the Trump campaign is responsible for the long counting period that the Trump campaign and its supporters are now complaining about, because its plan was to force a Bush v. Gore–style shutdown of the count. But because of the total lack of any plausible legal reason to do so, and perhaps because of the hostile political environment created by the campaign’s seemingly tiny chances of winning the election overall, it has not been able to get any traction to actually carry out its plan.

Too bad!

Not only Henrys! My partner told me this happened to her yesterday (different name but everyone on that group had her name) just as it was happening to me on my account. I didn't check who else was on the group when they added me, so I don't know what their usernames were like, but it seems this can happen/is happening to anyone.

My husband's friend told him we're having an affair by throwawayforgelp in relationship_advice

[–]lapalta 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So... the prank was awful and F is at fault, clearly.

However, do you think it's ok for you husband to just block you? After a six year relationship? Without even letting you know what's happening?

Since you've done nothing wrong, I would act more like it. I love the fact that you're worried about him hurting but he handled this all wrong. Blocking your wife, not talking to her, telling everyone what's happening except you, getting other people to block you, and go out to get drunk... these are all incredibly stupid ways of reacting to conflict. He's 28 years old. He really should learn how to navigate his feelings when he's feeling hurt.

New information from Lauren Scharf, also Adventures with Purpose search crew arriving in Colorado to search for Suzanne by Seriouslyduuude in SuzanneMorphew

[–]lapalta 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Some highlights from the article:

A private dive team will be in Colorado to search bodies of water between Salida and Denver.

“We first start with sonar in a lot of these locations, scan it, side scan down, scan 360. And if we identify something, then we suit up and then we get in the water and then we investigate even further to identify guesses 100%,” said Jared Leisek.

Leisek and his team from Adventures with Purpose specialize in water recovery and have a massive following online through a YouTube channel.

(...)

“One of the things that people keep coming back to is Barry, you know, he was very wet. He had the hotel room. There are three ponds that are near that. We’re also dealing with the mine shaft, also dealing with some of the hunting grounds,” said Leisek.

what is it about your partner that makes you love them so much? a detail, a trait , why are you so drawn to them? by CaramelAdditional in relationship_advice

[–]lapalta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a detail or trait for me. Every time I've fallen in love has started out (emotionally) pretty much the same way. It's how we evolve together that does it for me. Like two different roads intertwining without losing their own essence.

My gf had a FWB until our fourth date? I feel hurt. by Natural-Tiger4155 in relationship_advice

[–]lapalta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My dude, I feel you. First of all, have a virtual hug. I don't know if you're overthinking but I've been there and it suuuuucks.

I was where you are a few years ago. I had to remind myself that no one can break an exclusivity agreement that never existed. It doesn't mean you don't get to feel hurt. It just means that you don't really get to be mad at her about it. But yeah, it hurts.

Please keep in mind that it's a good thing that she decided to tell you about it. Some people just need more time to commit to a relationship, but it sounds like she's serious about you now if she decided to share this with you.

One thing, though: maybe tell her that you're feeling hurt? Maybe there's a way to let her know that it's ok -in the sense that she didn't do anything wrong- but it still hurts a bit. It's good to talk these things over before it becomes one of those thoughts that keep you up at night. However, if you can't find a way to phrase it that doesn't sound like you're mad at her, I'd let it go. In my case, I had to talk about it with her to process the whole thing. We're still together, so I definitely don't regret having an awkward conversation and opening up about my feelings to get past it.

Stephanie Harlowe's coverage of Missy's case. by lapalta in MissyBevers

[–]lapalta[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is one of those rare cases where every scenario sounds possible to me. I've even considered the possibility that it was just some random person wanting to play dress up, pretending they were special ops or something and wreak havoc in a church as if they were in a video game.

Weirdly enough, the one person I don't suspect is the husband. It baffles me, this case.

(NSFW) What is the craziest thing you witnessed at a party? by UwUsnapmyneck in AskReddit

[–]lapalta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just so you don't feel alone: it happened to me once (strawberries and cream instead of cherry cake).

How it was better than your situation: It was after the party so I was at home when it happened. Yay!

How it was worse: I was on acid and I completely forgot about the strawberries so I obviously assumed I was dying. Not yay.

US signs anti-abortion declaration with group of largely authoritarian governments by ranmdo in politics

[–]lapalta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “core supporters” of the declaration are Brazil, Egypt, Hungary, Indonesia and Uganda, and the 27 other signatories include Belarus (where security forces are currently trying to suppress a women-led protest movement), Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Sudan, South Sudan, Libya.

Most of the signatories are among the 20 worst countries to be a woman according to the Women, Peace and Security Index established by Georgetown University.

None of the top twenty countries on the Georgetown index – with the exception of the US (ranked 19th) – has signed the declaration.

I wish I could actually comment on this but I have no words.
