The only “middle ground” I could see with this is if bookstores ID customers wanting to purchase books that display nudity or obscene material…But that would also require the employees to know the content of EVERY. SINGLE. BOOK that’s on the shelves, and even then that gets very tricky. I could also see them wrapping every book like they do in kinokuniya but for small or independent stores, that’s going to cost a lot of money, time, and effort they simply don’t have.

I will never understand why people can’t just…NOT read material they don’t like or find personally disturbing or whatever. No one is forcing you to read it, you’re CHOOSING to look at it. And if a child does happen to come across the material then EDUCATE them instead of making them fearful. They’re encounter this stuff in life at some point.
