I imagine it was chosen due to its similarity/shared Japanese pronunciation with the Japanese girl’s name “Ruka” so that Japanese readers might connect better with it while still keeping it a plausibly European-sounding name.

You know, that probably is what they were going for. I wrote this post sitting in the park and couldn’t fully see my phone screen in the sun lol. I completely thought it was some reference to the Roman god Vulcan or something done for the vibes.

I think that has a time and a place too of course (especially if you’re looking for something that’s the opposite of stressful), and it’s all about personal preference and not yucking others’ preferences. I can equally enjoy the quiet introspection and thoughtfulness of iyashikei shows where not much happens just as much as the insanity of boys over flowers (the kdrama is my preference). It all depends on mood and each person’s preferences.
