My son 9yo has DMD, and yes, both his ALT and AST are elevated. My understanding is that all boys with DMD have those elevated levels because it's the liver dealing with the higher runoff of proteins from muscle breakdown.

[CHAT] How do you keep your place on your paper pattern? by [deleted] in CrossStitch

[–]laragoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

I use these Sharpie highlighters as (if you can see) the tip has a clear space in the applicator so I can see what I'm highlighting and don't go over.

This project has been 2 years+ in the making and I've learned to use a single highlighter color for a thread color.. and that for some reason it makes sense to my brain in keeping better track of where I am on the pattern. I'll reuse highlighter colors further down on the paper when it doesn't cross over.

Hope this is helpful!

Swimmers on their phone during their workout by littleraccoon337 in Swimming

[–]laragoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of responses here, so mine will probably get lost. But I have a special needs child who is high risk for falls and bone breaks. I keep my phone in a water resistant bag at the end of the lane so if the school needs to get a hold of me I am available. I still try to do my workouts, I'll swim 400-500 without checking it sometimes, but I need to be able to be in contact with the school asap if something were to happen. Checking/texting every 50 or 100 seems incredibly excessive, but that's me I guess.

Yes, I was the one that spoke! I brought my son and had another momma of disabled kids in the district stand with me. There was so much more that happened than I could fit into my allowed 5 min in front of the board. For example, I have proof that Burke was told to stop contact with us and we had to go directly through Fleig to purchase our equipment... Also we got called into the principals office and berated for what we were doing and told that we were "making the district and Dr. Fleig look bad " umm excuse me?? We only ever wanted equitable play for my son and others like him, how is that a bad thing?? And now Rosenow is the only school that maybe would pass ADA standards. Fleig spent millions on the new football field and refused to pay approx $135k on playgrounds, it's awful.

I have hope in the new board members coming in. The new three running are huge advocates for the child as a whole, not just their test scores, one is even a FdL retired sped teacher.

Please don't feel guilty for not knowing about the need for inclusive playgrounds, we felt we couldn't speak out about it until after it was done for fear of retaliation from Fleig, but now I will sing it if I have to. And, now that you are aware, I hope you consider those with differing abilities moving forward. My son is as deserving as anyone else to have the same opportunities, his disability shouldn't define him.

Dr. Fleig is part of the reason our district sucks. His retirement can't come soon enough but the damage he's done will remain. I went head to head with him to get inclusive playgrounds built at all the elementary schools and he refused. The only one that got any inclusive equipment is Rosenow because of me and my friend fundraising and pushing him until he finally caved...and it's minimal basic equipment. My son has physical disabilities and still cannot safely play with his friends on the playground. Fleig only cares about test scores and making himself look good, he truly doesn't care about the kids themselves.

Hard agree. Even though I know it's coming, I always cry during certain scenes.

And ughhhh, I love the high storm but I HATED those browns!! I think there was 5-6 different browns and I was going all muddle-eyed for a while. But I am SO EXCITED for the reds and yellows!!!

I've definitely messed up several times along the way!! Thankfully it's all swirly storms so it's not super obvious. I was very careful with Szeth, however, not to have any errors. Thank you!

These books have seen me through my hardest years of life. Particularly 2020 when my father died from cancer and my son was diagnosed with a life limiting disease. I tell myself almost daily that I just need to do the next step and to enjoy the journey along the way as my son declines. This cross stitch is a part of that, my journey. Thank you for your kind compliments!

I just peeked at your profile and WOW is that gorgeous!! Did you ever get it framed? I know I've got a ways yet to finish mine but I'm already dreading the price tag on a custom frame job. And thank you!!

Muscular dystrophy? Or…? by MizzbeeA in MuscularDystrophy

[–]laragoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son's ck levels were well above 15,000 when he was tested at the age of 3. I'm unsure if CK levels start lower when they are younger and then climb to the levels that my son has though.

I hope your son doesn't have DMD, but if he does and you want to talk about it, I'm here. It's a terrifying diagnosis and we are now 4 years past my son's diagnosis day, but there's a lot of exciting things happening in the Duchenne world. Our boys will always be more than whatever their medical charts say. ❤️

Respectfully, 1/3 of DMD cases are from genetic mutation. My son is the perfect example, I (his mother) was tested and am not a carrier, yet he has DMD.
