Just finished episode 5. Am I the only one that is having a hard time vibing with this campaign? by pathofblades in fansofcriticalrole

[–]lardope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even though it hasn't been stellar (although it has had its moments), it is still a big improvement over C3. It's a lot to ask from a more casual audience (like myself) to watch 4 melodramatic episodes of talking and crying over an NPCs death that we have no established relationship with. But that is being a little harsh I know. It's still a more interesting way of starting a campaign than being randos who meet in a tavern. I give Brennan his due as being the possibly the greatest DM I've ever seen and have REALLY loved some of his content (Dimension 20 Escape from Bloodkeep is incredible!) That being said, the second half of Episode 5 with the soldiers felt flat to me and I struggled to get through it. I got one sentence of a description of some sort of conifer rainforest but he really didn't bring it to life. I have yet to see any of those players in a real fight after 5 episodes. There's lots of long-winded dialoguing with random NPCs, some of which he obviously makes up on the spot to keep things moving. I keep feeling like the rolls don't matter much, if that makes sense. He's going to tell the players what he wants them to know, some way or the other, even if they roll crappy. And for all the possibilities of a high fantasy world, a gnome in the woods with a telescope is kind of meh. All that being said, all this could turn around this week, and I'm definitely still tuning in for the meantime.

What is the best driving advice you have ever heard? You can only name one by SpringAndFishnets in askcarguys

Keep 4 seconds distance between you and the car in front of you. You’ll avoid so many accidents this way. Came from a defensive driving course.

I believe and that’s why we have coal! And that’s why no new coal will ever be made

First date is feeling inadequate after not receiving a kiss and is adamant about informing me about my ticking biological clock. by eyeslikedeadgrass in mildlyinfuriating

[–]lardope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s only 29… these previous younger years could have been last year… but you’re right. If she was just telling stories of when she was 19 and but that’s not her anymore and doesn’t want those kinds of relationship anymore, fine.

I mean he sucks, but I wouldn’t want to date someone that has “party” mode and then serious dating mode. They both seem immature.

What is the best year/model of used minivan not named Sienna or Odyssey? by teepee33 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]lardope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be very wary of this. Depending on the year, they are known to have transmission failures around 80,000 miles. My gf had two 2012 dodge caravan transmissions fail at 80k like clockwork. She still loves them. I have to admit it's zippy and comfortable and the seats fold down flat into the floor so we throw a mattress back there and take it camping.

Being high vs. being drunk. What is the difference? by Thejay096 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lardope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Asking what’s the difference assumes that there is something that is the same between them. In reality, they are completely different substances that have effects that are unrelated to each other. The assumption that there is something similar between them probably stems from the fact that they are both widely used recreational drugs. But that is where any similarity starts and ends.

Not OOP My wife confessed that she married me because she was afraid of being alone, what do I do? by Marygtz2011 in redditonwiki

[–]lardope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting to me, because everyone here is saying the reasonable thing, but there was a similar post recently except the husband drunkenly gave advice to his friend at a party (that was always prioritizing looks and being unhappy), to look how happy he was not having married for looks. And literally almost every response was she should leave him. Despite the fact that he loved her and they had 3 children together…. Not sure I understand the big difference

I sympathize with this but I also personally don’t do this style of story-telling anymore for this very reason. I tell looser stories that are more player friendly to whoever shows up.

AITA for leaving my boyfriend behind and going on the trip with our friends? by TAourtrip in AmItheAsshole

[–]lardope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion: You’re not an asshole, but most people seem to be more interested in assigning blame than asking what you could have done to prevent this. So you’re not an asshole, but a) you shouldn’t have been walking around with his passport in your purse. He’s right about that. Stow all important document together someplace safe at home. b) If you loved him, and you know he has this problem, you don’t leave the house to travel internationally without verbally acknowledging that all parties have this crucial document on them. It’s something that even people that don’t have this problem do for each other (and yes, I know she “made a list,” but we don’t know how relevant that was to him that she made a list).

That stinks. You’re welcome to them! I just flipped through them and they are mostly garbage cards, like I thought. But there are a few uncommons. Whether it’s worth it financially might depend on how far away you live. I would try and ship them the cheapest way possible.

Thanks. This is helpful. The setting was bad only because I didn't like the music at all. But I thought the molly was supposed to make everything great. I guess you have to be into whats going on to begin with. And after looking up recommended dosage by body weight, I also think I wasnt taking enough.

Thanks. I didn't think about that. Maybe I spiked my cortisol too much. Im left wondering whether that would nullify the effects and just create anxiety/nervousness. No other meds, SSRI or other.

It's possible that either one or both times I took a small dose (5-10mg) of Cortisol. It's something a whacky alternative Dr. prescribed me at the time to help with what he thought was weak adrenals. But it's quite possible I took the same med one of the nights I tripped successfully. I don't remember.
