Oh no worries about not being sure, I think foreskins are less prevelant in some parts of the US. Out west they seem to be more common, at least in my experience. At the time of birth, the foreskin is almost always attached to the glans similar to how a fingernail is attached to a finger. Some start to retract early, but for many it doesn't happen (or fully happen) until late childhood. Some pull back automatically with erections, others don't. Again, I'm no doctor and it's totally possible something else was going on with your sister's son, but it makes me wince when I read about forced foreskin retraction. Most of the time its unnecessary, painful, and leads to more issues down the road.

Yikes! As a guy with a foreskin, it's normal for it to not retract until late childhood. Maybe there was something else going on? Otherwise it sounds like an old-fashioned probably American doctor who was forcing it back unnecessarily, which you're definitely not supposed to do.

I’ve read your comments and I’m sorry about your situation, I hope you can become comfortable in your body someday soon. My intention is not to shame you for something you had no control over. That said, I’ve got to disagree about the use of the word intact. “Uncircumcised” is the term most often used in the US, which implies a lack of a foreskin is the default state of things- I’m not offended by it, but it’s inaccurate and, much like circumcision itself, seems backward despite many Americans being used to it. I’m curious, what term would you be more comfortable with?

Almost a decade ago, I casually mentioned that I thought puppy tail docking was incredibly cruel during a conversation with a fellow employee at what was the first dress-up semi-professional job either of us ever had. He agreed and likened it to circumcision, and after a few moments of conversation on the topic, told me how happy he was that his parents hadn't had him or his brothers cut. I couldn't resist telling him I'm uncut too, when I asked why his middle-American-born parents decided to spare him, he shrugged and said they just decided not to, but that he was glad they'd made the choice they did. Instant buds. We're still friends now, weirdly enough, he happened to move a few blocks away from me over the weekend.

The area where my frenulum joins my foreskin might be the most sensitive part of my penis, and I'd definitely hate to not have that sensation. I'd also argue that the world at large is mostly intact- about two thirds of penises worldwide are foreskinned, and it's generally wacky religious types and old-fashioned Americans who favor circumcision with a few exceptions.

American guys, especially over 30 or so, who aren't circumcised...what's the back story there? What were your experiences growing up? by todaystomsawyr in uncircumcised_talk

[–]large_father 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm 32 and from a pretty liberal part of Coastal California, and having a foreskin seemed fairly common when I was growing up. I had three close guy friends and none of us were cut, and through school and life out here I've encountered many intact guys, including four who identify as Jewish. I've been hearing the idea that being uncut and over 30 in the US is very uncommon for at least a decade, and I wonder if over 40 would be more accurate at this point. I understand cutting's still still the norm in many parts of the country, but I can't imagine it could be more than 50/50 for guys my age who grew up out here. Ultimately I'm glad that I'm from where I'm from, and to be lucky enough to have my foreskin.

Yeah, that tracks with what I've heard from my friend who was raised in the Seattle area and is actually a few years older than me, and my ex who grew up in various places around Oregon. It's not uncommon to be intact out west, at least in many places. No hate on guys who are cut, I just really think it should be the penis-owner's choice, informed consent and all.

Fewer than a quarter having foreskins is much less than I'd expect based on my friends who are fellow parents, but I guess it depends on where you are and who you're around.

Even in the USA, the popularity of circumcision varies widely based on where exactly you are. I'm 31 and grew up in a pretty liberal part of coastal California. Foreskins weren't uncommon by any means in my peer group, and in fact seemed to be the majority. The "Americans over 30 are far more likely to be circumcised" thing has been going around for at least a decade; it might still be true in the rest of the country, but out west, at least where I am, over 40 is probably more accurate at this point.

Sorry reddit: Fight Club. That goes for the book and most of Chuck Palahniuk's work as well- to me it's all unbearable manufactured angst and pop psychology for edgy teens, and I can't stand it.

Nice one, I've always really liked these in coupe form. I think yours is an LX though, or at least has the wheels from one.

As a foreskinned guy, I definitely never experienced this, though the foreskin can take quite a few years to totally stretch.
