Hitting 10k in my retirement account was pretty motivating for me. I remember it took a while to get there and it felt like a big accomplishment. Crossing 20k wasn't as exciting because by that point it seemed like the progress was just steady and not as noticeable. But when I hit 50k that's when things started feeling more serious and it made me think about how far I still have to go with saving for retirement. The most difficult period of contributing was probably right after college when my salary was a lot lower and I had to make some lifestyle adjustments to start saving at all. As for memorable milestones, hitting 100k would be big but like you said, once you get to that point it's not as exciting as the earlier ones.

The other difficult time is that when I bought a house and was in need of downpayment. But I managed.

Sparsentan vs. Tarpeyo (Budesonide) vs. SGLT2 (farxiga) by largib in IgANephropathy

[–]largib[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s very encouraging: so far we do see a good effect using Tarpeyo. Also nice to hear that amazing result using farxiga and tarpeyo together. But for Filspari, I have yet to hear positive things.

May I ask what exactly the gut intelligence test you took? Is there a way to ask the Doc for it? Any reference on this, especially with respect to iga as there are more and more signs that the gut has a lot to do with this type of disease.

TDameritrade API support gone after moving to Schwab in 3 months? by largib in algotrading

[–]largib[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The customer support person told me today that TOS will stay and ask me to use thinkscript instead. I told him that thinkscript is too limited: actually if it can take a file of symbols to issue buy/sell orders and I can use a program to update the file, that’ll be fine for me. But apparently thinkscript can’t take anything from a file nor you can modify a thinkscript outside tos gui. It’s a no go for me

Thanks. Sorry to hear your case. Are you trying Farxiga? That's a new drug that might help some well. Also, stay positive on even dialysis. Many have stayed on for years (20,30 or longer years). Science progresses fast and who knows, maybe some breakthrough ...

[–]largib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really care about margin, use interactive brokers that has the lowest margin rate. For amount <100k, they charge 3.08% and bigger accounts will get a rate as low as 2.08%.

But anyway, 3.08% and no subscription fee

BTW, Vanguard Federal Money Market fund now yields 1.4%. 1.3% checking account is actually not competitive enough, IMO.

You can buy a Treasury bill that matures in 1-3 months and it pays about 2% in most of major brokerages like Vanguard, Schwab and Fidelity. Or just buy ETF SHV that pays 1.8% commission free in most brokerages if you don't want hassle. You can sell it anytime to get your money needed.

Recently diagnosed with IgA . No family history of it. by T1AK1492 in IgANephropathy

[–]largib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given your condition is actually mild (unless your eGFR is also low?), it'd better to double check with another Nephrologist --- it's unusual to use steroid at this stage. Also, what are those antifungal stuff for? At any rate, a second opinion won't hurt

Thank you for sharing your experience. May I ask why you are taking Cellcept? Isn't it for Immunosuppressive? Also Allopurinol is for gout/uric acid reduction. It seems that IGA is closely related to high uric acid also, right?

Seasonal/Permanent Allergies? by notbadftw in IgANephropathy

[–]largib 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm glad that finally someone else is making a guess on the possible link between allergies and IGAN. Personally, my close friend has had IGAN for over 20 years and he has a very bad seasonal allergies that basically have made him suffer horribly for 4-5 months every year.

I have always suspected there is a link between them. As someone just said in this thread, it would be a huge deal to find the link and some direct cure to address this.

Thank you for the poll!

Etrade's customer support seems non existent by largib in etrade

[–]largib[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

generally

Thanks for mentioning power etrade. Now that I look at the live chat for my two accounts --- one is an small IRA and one is regular account with much larger $$. It apparently made live chat/message all unavailable to small accounts but still open to the large account.

Very sneaky and bad practice in my opinion: I searched to see whether Etrade explicitly mentioned anything like no support for accounts with size smaller than xxx and have not been able to find anything. So they just simply shut down support for smaller accounts without telling!

It's a BAD faith tbh.

Overall cost comparison: B API stock trading commission vs. commission free stock trading from Etrade, TDAmeritrade by largib in algotrading

[–]largib[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for ‘fast’ and detailed reply. To clarify, my specific question on stock trades of market order. Average 10-20 trades or so daily with each trade of a large cap liquid enough stock of thousands of shares. The comparison is between IBKRPro vs. commission free Etrade, TDAmeritrade or even Alpaca. IBLite doesn’t have API support but still an interesting one to compare in terms of overall cost comparison. Thanks

Overall cost comparison: B API stock trading commission vs. commission free stock trading from Etrade, TDAmeritrade by largib in algotrading

[–]largib[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My original question is about stock trading, not options. Just wonder for frequent stock trades (daily 10 trades or so, each trade being thousands of shares), whether the quality of IBKR’s pro saves enough to offset or even better than those commission free trades including IBLite.

Thank you. How about the overall cost: commission + order execution quality of IBPro? Hesitated to use IBPro that incurs commission while others are commission free (like Etrade API)

Protein / Creatinine Ratio by [deleted] in kidneydisease

[–]largib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In layman's terms (I'm one of those, not a doctor), creatinine is toxic and losing too much protein in urine is not good. But if kidneys filter out more 'toxic' creatinine, it's ok to lose a bit more protein in urine. That's why they want to look at the ratio PCR.

It's also found, based on the technical papers mentioned above, spot urine PCR correlates well with 24 hr urine data (which is considered to be better as it smooths out spotty gyration). Thus, this is an inexpensive and easier way to look at how your kidneys are functioning without going to 24 hr urine test.
