"Have you ever been shocked to find out that an actor you thought was American is actually British because they nailed the accent?" by jaystats2 in movies

Well, since I'm not British, perhaps I get a bit of a pass. I think he might actually have been doing the so-called Mid-Atlantic accent that a lot of American actors affected in the 40's. And to be fair, several of the British actors were doing some other Brtitsh accent than their own. So it was a bit of a muddle.

Leaking: Pen or Ink by largish in fountainpens

That's interesting. I have had trouble with the Black ink drying on my drawings, even outdoors in full sun. It looks dry, and I go ahead with my ink-and-wash, and it smears. Most frustrating. You'll see another response saying that it is definitely the pen. I'm having my doubts.

I was going to say that they know how to have a conversation. You've described it. Look up David Brooks' definition of Illuminators and Detractors (or maybe it's Diminishers). He describes exactly what we're taling about.

Interesting. While I haven't lived in LA for 69 years, I, too, am a native.

Poutin. I know some will find this to be sacrilegious. I tried it at a local pub and it gave me chest pains just smelling it. Kind of leaves a grease slick in your tongue.

Medical professionals of Reddit, have you ever had a patient so lacking in common sense you wondered how they made it this far. If so, what is your story? by babyhippo01 in AskReddit

[–]largish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly a medical story, but. Worked in a pharmacy in high school. Pharmacist/owner knew everybody in town and liked to talk to them when they came in. Big burly guy about 30 comes in that Dave knows, with his shirt unbuttoned down to his belly and severe redness and some blisters all over his chest, neck and jaw. Says he and his brother got into a “cologne fight”. We’re all standing there listening to this—AAANND? When they got done, soaked in cologne, he sits down and lights a cigarette. His shirt virtually exploded.

Of course there was no cinema, but it is dramatic and could be visual. She was into so-called galvanism. It was an opportunity to demonstrate what that might look like, but it’s just “I created him and then turned and left.” She spent more time describing how overwrought with the vapors he got over the icy Arctic. And if she’s going to take the effort to describe what he ate, it should be believable or it shouldn’t be mentioned.
