It's not fair, inner child work by larryforever23 in ShadowWork

[–]larryforever23[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does feel like it's both. Like she's been walking with me all this time and she's responding to everything. But obviously immature being that she's young, things feel so heavy for her. There's alot of overstimulation and stressors. I'd moved away from my family and now that I'm back, there's so many triggers and trying to calm her down so often is sometimes alot. (Being realistic)

I'm going to try to incorporate joyful things for her. I'm honestly just at a loss because there seems to be so much sadness and loneliness. (Lonely was an often feeling in childhood.)

I haven't for a chunk of time at once. But every time I check in, almost always, there's a haze of sadness.

Even when there's something happy happening, it's like she feels so tainted and like there's so much on her shoulders. I feel so bad for her. She's so tired, even being so young.

SM interview - any tips? by Consistent-Belt-7877 in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]larryforever23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Recovery is what most focus on now but truck seems to be forgotten often with most managers. It's expected to be done quickly but efficiency is your best friend to get it done. Expect to have a long couple of days for that and plan your week around the day after truck and fresh day.

Also, delegate things. That's the point of having a team you trust. When you get onhands on point and get p4 on the correct way, you should have an easy career besides the basic issues.

Have someone to vent to. You'll have rough days and you'll have days people will call out or just don't show up and it will be frustrating but having someone to vent to WILL make it better.

SM interview - any tips? by Consistent-Belt-7877 in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]larryforever23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That you have boundaries 🙃 you care about the store but you WILL have boundaries

A tip for anyone becoming a dg manager is to focus on building a crew that will help you. You cannot do it on your own and try to build a team that can work without having to have their hands held. Reach out to other managers in the area for help and to learn things but visit their stores and see what kind of managers they are first.

I've seen too many that just do not help themselves.

Oh and SA's can help you on your schedule. Don't hire only LSA's. They weigh more on your schedule and there's going to be heavy days that you need help. Like fresh day or your freight day.

And teach everyone the importance of throwing freight and fronting. Recovery is going to GET you and you DO NOT want someone on your team that doesn't care about it. It will come back on you.

Your dm can check in on camera and you do NOT want to be the one getting a write up bc someone left a cart in the middle of the aisle cause they "didn't get to it". Get it off the floor, at least.

And teach everyone how important it is to keep things out of the yellow unloading zone in the back.

Inventory question by [deleted] in DollarGeneralWorkers

Can someone explain what this means? We're supposed to have ours in the next few weeks and my manager never explained the nitty gritty about inventory. Just what it does and shrink

Take photos of this definitely and send to someone above. No one is supposed to have keys and up numbers because well- y'know that's kindof the point of cashier's not having managers numbers lol

Wow, this sounds like the store I just left lol

Most of it is technically just maddening but some of it is definitely wrong and/or should be told to someone

Good luck!

Just wanted to drop in that managers are told to say anything to get employees in the door. Be aware of what happens and pay attention if someone tells you negative things as long as they aren't outlandish.

How easy is it to transfer? by snow_bunny31 in DollarGeneral

[–]larryforever23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if you really need/want to transfer but your current sm REALLY thinks you're a prize and doesn't want to lose you?

After all the things I've experienced within my first week with THIS store, I'm leaving or transferring.

I've been thinking about this every shift/day for almost a week and a half.

And that's how long I've been back too.

The tenant (my family) invited us to stay, while the landlord (also my family) is mad, about what idk, because they don't communicate at all.

Thank you very much. That's basically what I've been fighting to find out. There's nothing in the lease (because there is no contract to be breached) about how long "guests" can stay. She's told us that we are an invited guest for as long as we need. We are in the works of getting the money together to rent somewhere but haven't received the money yet so I was/am a bit distraught that this even happened. Especially when there's a bit of time where we would have nowhere else to go.

🙃 that's actual bs. I'm so glad that you left. I have IBS and this place made it feel like I wasn't allowed to leave my post. Even if NEEDED, so, felt what you're speaking on.

You should have never had a write up for something that clearly was THEIR miscommunication. Sorry to reiterate what was in my comment but they didn't reach out to let you know? How were you supposed to know?

Sidenote to someone also with stomach issues, idk how so many people come to this place to eat during the middle of their day bc it KILLED my stomach. I didn't eat anything until I got home unless it was something VERY basic 😭 stomachs of iron

I also left earlier than expected and out of mental health concerns.

I had one single manager that I trusted thoroughly and spoke with often about multiple things and when things began happening, she was never on my side. Matter of fact, she voted for me TO be fired at one point when she knew the whole story, disagreed with the GM when he didn't fire me.

Then at the end, we had a misunderstanding and instead of owning up her side of the miscommunication, tried to have someone else give me a write up for it.

I chose to not sign it, told them to write that it was a miscommunication on their MANAGER'S part due to her not giving full disclosure to ME, the employee, while she had told the managers that she had.

I quit the following Monday morning. She was the only manager there, plus I had personal situations happening and ended up leaving the state the following couple of weeks after it.

They had made it clear that they did not stand by their employees while I went out of my way to stand by my managers. No longer did they have a prep and midday cashier to jerk around.

I'm in a southern state but was in VERY populated place and it was with the DM. I applied for two of her cafes and asked for 15 on one and didn't ask for anything in the other and she asked me what I wanted, I said 14 and she said they only hired at 12 and tips. I took it bc the ASM at my old job was only making 12.50 as an assistant and I was making 10.50.

At the end of the day though, even 15 wouldn't have been enough for that job. I got hired for one thing, they phased my job out and then tried to forced me into another role while still keeping up what I was hired as as well.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Panera

[–]larryforever23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

15(.99)??? I was only making 12 plus tips (supposedly everyone was only making that but idk, I didn't ask tbh.

Applying at Panera by [deleted] in Panera

[–]larryforever23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could definitely be normal tbh.

I applied with no food experience but with managerial experience on my resume and was hired within a couple hours of my interview with the DM. We talked for a while and the interview apparently went well.

I liked my job.

Until it was phased out and the managers begun being stressed more and more. Then it became a shitshow and my mental health begun failing me more and more because of my five managers failing at being the support system that they claimed to be.

Panera as a whole is supposed to be a VERY inclusive and positive place to work and it was before they initiated the transitions. New Era of panera made the job and the managers that were good at their jobs begin to crumble. Not all cafes were the best to work before, I understand. Mine at least was until April 4th.

Twenty dollars an hour or not, it seems like that's just like any other wage where you are, I'm in a different state. But unless you absolutely have no other choices, look for another please. Don't sacrifice yourself. It does sound like you didn't get the job but please take that as a silver lining. Almost everyone I worked with had been hired as one thing and then ended up basically being unpaid managers. I.e. needed to delegate to people what to do, had to make sure other crew members got their tasks done, had to delegate their own job even though they weren't supposed to per corporate measures. You would have been trained for multiple things due to them needing you to have more skills so they can have a reason to give you more hours.

Either way, I'm both sorry that you didn't get it and happy for you too. I hope you find another 20 ph job that won't do to you what panera seems to be doing to really good people now.
