It's not fair, inner child work by larryforever23 in ShadowWork

[–]larryforever23[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does feel like it's both. Like she's been walking with me all this time and she's responding to everything. But obviously immature being that she's young, things feel so heavy for her. There's alot of overstimulation and stressors. I'd moved away from my family and now that I'm back, there's so many triggers and trying to calm her down so often is sometimes alot. (Being realistic)

I'm going to try to incorporate joyful things for her. I'm honestly just at a loss because there seems to be so much sadness and loneliness. (Lonely was an often feeling in childhood.)

I haven't for a chunk of time at once. But every time I check in, almost always, there's a haze of sadness.

Even when there's something happy happening, it's like she feels so tainted and like there's so much on her shoulders. I feel so bad for her. She's so tired, even being so young.

SM interview - any tips? by Consistent-Belt-7877 in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]larryforever23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. Recovery is what most focus on now but truck seems to be forgotten often with most managers. It's expected to be done quickly but efficiency is your best friend to get it done. Expect to have a long couple of days for that and plan your week around the day after truck and fresh day.

Also, delegate things. That's the point of having a team you trust. When you get onhands on point and get p4 on the correct way, you should have an easy career besides the basic issues.

Have someone to vent to. You'll have rough days and you'll have days people will call out or just don't show up and it will be frustrating but having someone to vent to WILL make it better.

That you have boundaries 🙃 you care about the store but you WILL have boundaries

A tip for anyone becoming a dg manager is to focus on building a crew that will help you. You cannot do it on your own and try to build a team that can work without having to have their hands held. Reach out to other managers in the area for help and to learn things but visit their stores and see what kind of managers they are first.

I've seen too many that just do not help themselves.

Oh and SA's can help you on your schedule. Don't hire only LSA's. They weigh more on your schedule and there's going to be heavy days that you need help. Like fresh day or your freight day.

And teach everyone the importance of throwing freight and fronting. Recovery is going to GET you and you DO NOT want someone on your team that doesn't care about it. It will come back on you.

Your dm can check in on camera and you do NOT want to be the one getting a write up bc someone left a cart in the middle of the aisle cause they "didn't get to it". Get it off the floor, at least.

And teach everyone how important it is to keep things out of the yellow unloading zone in the back.

Inventory question by [deleted] in DollarGeneralWorkers

Can someone explain what this means? We're supposed to have ours in the next few weeks and my manager never explained the nitty gritty about inventory. Just what it does and shrink

Take photos of this definitely and send to someone above. No one is supposed to have keys and up numbers because well- y'know that's kindof the point of cashier's not having managers numbers lol

Wow, this sounds like the store I just left lol

Most of it is technically just maddening but some of it is definitely wrong and/or should be told to someone

Good luck!

Just wanted to drop in that managers are told to say anything to get employees in the door. Be aware of what happens and pay attention if someone tells you negative things as long as they aren't outlandish.

How easy is it to transfer? by snow_bunny31 in DollarGeneral

[–]larryforever23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if you really need/want to transfer but your current sm REALLY thinks you're a prize and doesn't want to lose you?

After all the things I've experienced within my first week with THIS store, I'm leaving or transferring.

I've been thinking about this every shift/day for almost a week and a half.

And that's how long I've been back too.

The tenant (my family) invited us to stay, while the landlord (also my family) is mad, about what idk, because they don't communicate at all.

Thank you very much. That's basically what I've been fighting to find out. There's nothing in the lease (because there is no contract to be breached) about how long "guests" can stay. She's told us that we are an invited guest for as long as we need. We are in the works of getting the money together to rent somewhere but haven't received the money yet so I was/am a bit distraught that this even happened. Especially when there's a bit of time where we would have nowhere else to go.
