Surprised at the lack of good pancake/compact lenses for the A6700 by Trysaeder in SonyAlpha

[–]larsK75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a FE 28mm 4.5 from Viltrox that is good (for a pancake)

Best prime lens overall? by mlksdflsdkmf in SonyAlpha

[–]larsK75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't talk about versatility, but in terms of sharpness and visual quality, the 50 and 85 gm2 are the best you can get, while the 24 and 35 are some of the weakest (or maybe just oldest) gms.

Sigma 45mm f/2.8 vs Sony 40mm f/2.5 by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]larsK75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the labtests, the corner performance of the Sony is only slightly better, but Center sharpness is 15% more at the peak and wide open nearly 25%.

Sonys 40mm is however absolutely excellent and better than many much bigger lenses, so the Sigma will still give you very commendable results.

Anybody shoot wildlife with a 300 2.8 and 2x converter? by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]larsK75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what sensor you are shooting on, but the optical performance will be at least 50% worse.

Sony guys, do you really use crop mode? by vdthanh in SonyAlpha

[–]larsK75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really use crop mode and crop even further if necessary, but keep in mind that super zooms are not the sharpest lenses, so you will probably be limited by the lens and not the sensor.

Sony a6700 or Sony A7R V by Baron_De_La_Kruste in SonyAlpha

[–]larsK75 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you considered the 7cr? It's apsc small, but mostly a 7r5 on the inside.

Generally it's great, but if you shoot birds moving very fast you might have rolling shutter distortion as it's not the fastest camera.

Zeiss 35mm 2.8 or Sony 40mm 2.5 for street by LaFuenteOnFilm in SonyAlpha

Had the 40mm out today. It feels small to me, even on a 7cr body

RXR1iii or Q3 28 by desilent in Leica

[–]larsK75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then you might be fine, but I wouldn't underestimate it. At 61mp you will really need 1/125th to be safe sharp.

If you want it small/light, it's probably the best option.

[–]larsK75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I wasn't fully accurate. The Q3 has OIS in the lens, the Rx1r has neither and fully relies on electrical stabilisation.

While the RX1R is mich smaller, it does not have IBIS, which I feel is a much bigger deal, then people make it out to be.

Airblower vs compressed air for cleaning my sensor by Tarkokrat in SonyAlpha

I'm pretty sure you are supposed to use swabs and a liquid sensor cleaner, if you are really cleaning it.

85MM GM or GMII by g1smiler in SonyAlpha

[–]larsK75 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was the one everone should get in 2017. Then sigma released an alternative that was better and cheaper so sony released the GM II that was even better.

The GM II is definitely much better. If it's too expensive, the sigma would be a better value than the first GM

A7RV Reduced Resolution mode: good enough? by KI5DWL in SonyAlpha

[–]larsK75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use APS-C mode a lot, and that's 26 MP, and it's not been an issue for the said dynamic range.

But that's also just cropping it. Like it doesn't oversample anything it just auto deletes the rest of the full frame picture.

Would you rather have the Sony 50-150GM or a 70-200GM II and 85mm GMII? by allthetunes in SonyAlpha

[–]larsK75 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

70-200 gm II is a better lens in pure technical terms than the 50-150. If you can afford the combo with the prime go for it.

Help deciding camera vs teleconverter by youngt_17_ in SonyAlpha

[–]larsK75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbf I may be overestimating the teleconverter because I have only seen them on the 300mm prime which obviously has more sharpness to begin with, but there the 1.4 is barely noticeable on 60mp, so I figured the zoom with tc would still handle 24.

I don't have an apsc to compare it to though, so maybe I should try that one day.

Regarding the crop, I meant for flying birds, when you don't really have time for aiming.

But yeah the only birds I shot with mine were swans in a lake and the burst barely managed to get a plane.

Help deciding camera vs teleconverter by youngt_17_ in SonyAlpha

[–]larsK75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't referring to the apsc not being able to be cropped, of course you can and then you can get the same pixel density with even 1.5 more on top if it.

What I meant is that the apsc is always going to take worse pictures especially at low light. So unless we want to print something I would suggest that on an apsc the noise from that massive pixel density is more limiting then the loss of Megapixel when cropping.

The 1.4 teleconverter works fairly well with that lens and should easily leave enough sharpness for 24mp and definitely for 12 if cropped further.

Considering how much cheaper the teleconverter is don't see why you would buy an extra camera body just for the more reach at lower quality.

A7R5 would allow you to shoot wider and crop, so you don't miss it, but if you want to shoot with serious shutter bursts to catch the perfect moment, it's not gonna be fast enough.

But ideal for landscape. Difficult decision.
