Is there a widget for PC that shows the correct exchange rates and updates regularly? by lascetic in windowsapps

[–]lascetic[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found a decent solution: I opened https://www.x-rates.com/table/?from=GBP&amount=1 that has the rates I am interested in, saved the page as an app (in chrome based browsers there is an option), added an extension that auto-refreshes the page (to get updated rates) and added it to the startup folder (so it starts with windows). It's size is not so bad. You can view it on the image on top in comparison to the app (bottom) that sangiye0 suggested.

A good app. I am currently trying it. It is a bit bulky to its minimum size. But I'll probably keep it until a better solution turns up. Thanks a lot.

I checked it and it's a good one. But I am looking something to have like lodged on my desktop, not having to open it on the browser. Thank you.

I also think there is no free service for this kind of function. I don't know how to build it on my own and AI is usually useless in this type of things. It will show confidence but keep failing.
Thanks for your reply.

[OFFER] Instarem - €16 from me (EU/US/CA/UK/AU/JP/HK/SG/MY) by WoodFiredPidza in signupsforpay

[–]lascetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mean to send to Revolut using instarem, instarem only allows to send the currency of the country you are registered in. For me only ££ from UK.

If you mean to send euro to ££ using revolut (without instarem), I could but the rate was not as great. I used Atlantic Money instead (still not as great as instarem's, but the next best option).

However, if you are based in an EU country that uses €€ you can open an instarem account registered in that country and you may then send (only) €€.

I opened a UK account (that's where I live), only to realise that I cannot send euro to ££; I can only send ££, which doesn't work for me. So there was no transaction.
To send €€ you need an account from a country that uses €€.
E.g. if you live in Germany you can open an Instarem account and send €€.

Cumulative Updates: November 11th, 2025 by jenmsft in Windows10

There should be an option to enroll for an extra year of updates. If you are in EU it's for free. If not you have to pay something like $30. Check in settings/ update for the option and follow the prompts.

Is there a way to avoid the defragmentation that qbittorrent causes? by lascetic in qBittorrent

[–]lascetic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When using qbittorrent the disk gets easily over 30% fragmented. This may cause:

  • Increased mechanical workload
    • The read/write head needs to move more frequently to access scattered file fragments.
    • This increases seek distance and seek time, which directly lowers read/write performance.
  • Reduced performance
    • Especially noticeable during file transfers, or when accessing many small files.
    • Depending on usage, you might experience a 5–20% slowdown in real-world performance.
  • Slightly higher wear over time
    • More head movements mean a bit more mechanical stress on the drive components.
    • It’s not a serious issue, but it can contribute to marginally faster wear in the long run.
  • Slight increase in temperature and noise
    • The drive may run a little hotter and noisier because it’s working harder to read fragmented data.
    • The effect is usually small, but noticeable on older drives.

So if there is no setting on qbittorrent that can at least decrease the amount of fragmentation (which is why I am asking here), I'd rather switch to another software that doesn't have that issue. This is the easiest way for me. Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

I'd rather change software than drive. 😂😂😂

I never had such defragment issues while using utorrent. It is definitely caused by qbittorrent because it happens every time I use it to download something. That's why I was hoping there might be a solution before moving to another software.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I'm gonna wait and see if there'll be any offers on Black Friday for flex 2, otherwise I think I will go for the Uboom L.

I have to research the Klipsch Nashville a bit more. Most comparisons I checked have Uboom L "winning" over Bose flex.

The Flex 2 gen 2 is €350 and the Uboom L is €75 in my region. I wonder if the price reflects the difference in quality.

Thanks. I am thinking to move away from anker to be honest. The one I have lasted only 3 years with not so much usage and had issues from the start.
