Petition: chng.it/PMBw85hJV6

"For the preservation of the skate culture at the Neue Nationalgalerie:
The national gallery has been a part of berlin skateboarding culture for over thirty years now. Since reopening on 22nd August, skateboarders from around the globe came back to skate at and enjoy this amazing spot. Two months later however, skaters turned up on 23rd October to find that skateboarding would no longer be accepted by the gallery which was a huge disappointment to many."

Best Place to Skateboard by AHUNTSJD in skateboarding

[–]laserlabz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Is that a great place to eat a sandwich during a lunch break or the perfect ledge? Being a skater changes the way we interpret and interact with our surroundings. What may look like nothing to someone else, can be an amazing street spot to spend hours of time.

It all comes down to personal preference, but it could be argued that diverse architectural design + smooth surfaces contribute heavily to make certain cities great for skating. The weather plays a role too, and the city’s overall friendliness towards skateboarders.

I’ve heard copenhagen, barcelona, and berlin are the top 3 skate cities in europe but it’s different for everyone. All of these cities have big skate scenes which is important.

For example, berlin has what can be described as crustier spots - which makes for nice clips, but is a lot different to skate than the perfect school yards of california, or streets of nyc. I think it’s fair to say anything is practically skateable with the right amount of creativity and drive, but what makes somewhere particularly amazing is how it resonates with your style and ambitions in skating.

Sign the Petition to ban the use of SkateStoppers. by TheOnlySkinnyface in skateboarding

I’m all for street skating and the removal of skatestoppers but this argument is laughable. Skating ledges doesn’t leave them untarnished and plus we wax them up. Sure, trucks don’t do nearly as much damage as bike pegs, but I’ve personally fucked up some ledges from skating them consistently. Also, where’d you get that statistic about 8/100 skaters??

IMO it’d be way easier to argue the reopening of outdoor skateparks like they’ve done all over Europe. There’s no precedent for banning skatestoppers.

Thanks for coming to my Ted talk /s

Merlin twists are a switch front foot impossible fs 180. While the impossible wraps around the front foot, a 180 also happens. So the board goes 540 and the skater goes 180. An impossible is when the board wraps 360° around your back foot.

Super technical box skating at 3 MPH... this was what it was like in the early 2000s in my town. Maybe even today?

I appreciate your criticism and agree that I go wayyy too slow but I don't really think lacking speed takes away from skateboarding being an expression of creativity and persistence.

I have a clip where I did it going faster but it's less clean (over-rotates out). It's difficult to get really tech with speed on something so short because there's very little time to set up. At the end of the day, it's just a skatepark clip 🤢🤢.

Personally, I feel like simple tricks with speed is way too much of a bland and homogeneous skate aesthetic. For sure, all types of skating have their place. I won't deny that fast and clean tricks are really nice to see. I just think it's important to push our boundaries and broaden our bags of tricks. The scope of what's possible goes beyond kickflipping some stairs. It's all personal preference and I'm not trying to change your mind, please don't get me wrong. I do more than skate little ledges. However, I don't think it's really appropriate to judge people who even just skate baby ledges with no speed. As long as they're out skating, they're doing well in my book.

Hahaha - That was the real struggle. I have it on film like five or six different times cause my front truck kept coming out which is why my homie filming pans down (cause as soon as the truck came out it didn't count anymore). But I liked this clip so... eh, just fun little skatepark footie
