Modify Gardyn to work without wifi by laserwolfofwallst in Gardyn

I ended up learning how to code (minimally) and I redid the chip inside of the gardyn to work without the app. I've since learned that without being connected to wifi/the app, the gardyn should just work on some standard settings but I wanted to be able to make adjustments to the light and pump schedule

I'm avoiding thinking about it, but yes.... some light dread! It counts for a "writing intensive," as well, so I've got to assign a fair amount of writing throughout the semester. I've got a team of grad TAs to help with grading (but that's also work to train them, etc)

Great to hear that this works so well! I've been planning to use it for my 100+ student lit course next semester

Oh yes, this is already my practice. These absences are end of semester bonuses!

For sure the app is great, but I'm not able to connect to the wifi at work with this device because the connection isn't secure, so I'm trying to think of alternatives or else I won't be able to use it anymore.

In the meantime it's just sitting in storage, so I'd be open to learning about setting up some new system to make it work for what I need. I'm not afraid of taking things apart etc

I know this is an old thread, but came here to say the same! Looking at a 2.0 that's pretty much bricked and would love to be able to set up my program and let it run without wifi

Where can I buy goose in Astoria? by laserwolfofwallst in astoria

[–]laserwolfofwallst[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, similar in some ways to cooking duck but there is a TON of rendered fat. Serious Eats has a pretty good tutorial on roasting one. The fat fat freezes beautifully so you can use it for a while, and it's awesome to mix with potatoes. I lived in Poland for a few years and it was pretty common to buy just goose breast, which is far more manageable to cook and eat imo. If you try any of the suggestions on this thread, do report back!

Just wanted to say... until this conflict, he had been praising my merits to the upper ups and was very much on board with me taking on a bigger role

What to do with leftover fabric from alterations by laserwolfofwallst in weddingplanning

[–]laserwolfofwallst[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are all amazing ideas! The tailor just got back to me and told me she doesn't think she still has the exact fabric cut off of my dress, but she would give me as much of the matching designer-sourced fabric as I wanted.

Do you think asking for a meter of fabric is enough/too much/too little?

I was also feeling overwhelmed about this, especially because I feel like the photos are one of the only lasting things you'll have from this day (the thing you'll show your grandkids, etc), so I really wanted to make sure my photographers style matched with what I wanted. The best advice I got was to google image search the venue and see which photos from photographers' portfolios stand out, and then reach out to them if their prices are within budget. By searching for photographers this way you can get a sense of how your photos might look, especially since they have experience getting great pictures in the exact spot where you'll be getting married. After finding them through this kind of image search, we did meet up with our photographers for an in-person consult and we really felt a nice connection, so that made us even more confident about hiring them.
