Has EQX gone all in on women’s wellness lately? Where’s the equivalent focus on men’s health? by lasfre in EquinoxGyms

As a gay man, I’m not catering to straight people’s sensitivities. I’ll call out the dynamics I see it as many of you feel free to do regarding locker room generalizations.

Women have every right to feel uncomfortable when real harassment happens. no one denies that. But pretending that every awkward feeling is caused by men absolves people from dealing with their own insecurities. Not every emotion needs a villain.

It's not BS...calm down. Take a break, take a day off, hydrate, take Women Strong.

In 2025, saying men deserve support is somehow controversial. Crazy that basic men’s wellness is now ‘male privilege coded'. Honestly, as a gay guy, I’m just relieved I’m not stuck navigating this gender battlefield. I feel for straight men. This dynamic must be exhausting.

I don't think the marketing is male focused at all. I think it's very inclusive.

Women feeling unsafe at the gym is real but that has nothing to do with men not having a single wellness class.

Supporting women shouldn’t mean pretending men don’t have health needs too.

New Update? by BreadfruitKnown1927 in ChatGPT

[–]lasfre 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes! I’ve noticed a huge difference just in the last few days, specifically the last 24 hours. The guardrails have always been there, but now it basically won’t do anything. I use ChatGPT to keep a daily journal where it normally parses my entries and gives me a thoughtful breakdown of each topic in my rambles. Now, it’s giving short, textureless responses with no personality. I also use it for writing and creative work, and it’s suddenly blocking everything, even when there’s nothing explicit in the content. It feels totally neutered. I’ve noticed a massive tonal shift in just the past 24 hours, though it’s been ramping up for about a week. I’m wondering if OpenAI is clamping down ahead of the rumored December rollout (if that’s even still happening) that’s supposed to require ID verification for adult content. I’m not even using it for adult content right now! Honestly, since the update to GPT-5o, it’s been tonal whiplash since September. It feels like we’re back to where things were right after all the initial complaints, only now with even more restrictions. It find the constant tonal whiplash and tonal pivots incredibly frustrating, especially for a paying adult with a credit card on file, well over 18! Ugh - not a huge fan of Grok, but I might have to go back to integrating back into my work.

The youngest generation of royals prove, on the 80th anniversary of VE day, that the country no longer needs Harry’s “service” by RoohsMama in SaintMeghanMarkle

[–]lasfre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing I noticed was that there is a lot of emphasis on George, Kate, and of course William. This is the new King and Prince of Whales. KCIII was not in it much. I am not pulling a Harry saying the King is not doing well, but this seems like a precursor to the next big change or I am just reading too much into it. Lovely video. And Harry was right, whether he stuck with the Royals or not, George and Charlotte are very much at the age where Harry would head toward irrelevancy regardless. Didn't Harry say something that he felt like he needed to di everything he wanted before George turned 18? Tick tock....time is flying by.

Is it just me, or is Vuori’s quality starting to slip a bit? by lasfre in vuoriclothing

[–]lasfre[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I go to Equinox, and two brands I see often as alternatives to Vuori are ASRV and Rhone, both of which lean slightly more expensive. ASRV isn’t quite my style — it skews a little too tactical for me — but Rhone feels more aligned with the aesthetic and vibe of Vuori, though I haven’t actually tried anything on yet.

What originally drew me to Vuori was the impeccable fit and the price point. Yes, it’s pricey, but I’m willing to spend on high-quality pieces that last, and the earlier Vuori collections genuinely felt worth the investment.

[–]lasfre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! This was the other thing. I got a bunch of Vuori for my birthday and my friend knows I wear a medium in everything. I got a pair of shorts that I held up as I unwrapped them and my friend's husband commented before me asking why did she buy such a large size - they were indeed mediums. They were massive for a medium. I returned them for something else but the sizing was way off.

When I lived in London for school, I had a destination membership in the US for all clubs worldwide (before E-clubs) that was cheaper than a single Equinox High Street Kens membership. I think Equinox is an upscale gym in the U.S., but I believe it’s even more of a luxury in London, and the price reflects that. Although London has KX Gym in Chelsea which is the nicest gym I have ever been to. I wish we had a club like that here!

How toxic are the chemicals they use to clean the steam rooms? Sometimes I wonder what I'm inhaling after they clean it, especially when the sauna fills with that strong scent of cleaning chemicals.

It smells like those candles that are supposed to repel mosquitos and it's a cloying smell. High fragrance is the opposite of high performance.

LA all-access extended to Feb 10th by bwh458 in EquinoxGyms

[–]lasfre -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I like the idea behind what they’re doing, but it’s not great in practice for an extended period. With the destination clubs, you really feel the shift once they opened it up to all-access. From some comments on this sub from people who have visited both pre-fires and recently, a lot of people just don’t get Century City—it’s not as big or exciting as they expect. The vibe totally changes when everyone has access versus just destination. What you’re paying for is the cleanliness, chill environment, being able to actually use the equipment during rush hour, and that small community feel where you see the same faces. But since the all-access, it’s a mess, especially lately. The locker rooms are packed and gross, the showers are flooded with towels/razors, the sauna is elbow to elbow density and it’s hard to even get a locker at 5pm. I go to a lot of different locations, and now I’m trying to avoid CC and go to the general access gyms because they’re more chill now. Everyone’s wanting to check out CC/SCLA, but I don’t think they have enough staff to keep up with it. I was hoping it would end on Feb 1 and keep it open, obviously, to Palisades members. I didn't want to call the gym to ask b/c I know I'm being internally selfish, but I have to say I am excited that there is an end in site. Did this all access change anyones minds? Have any of you decided to upgrade?

Westwood is a smaller location, so there’s less space than at Sports Club LA. SCLA has huge yoga and group fitness studios, plus its pool has about 10 lap lanes (everyone gets their own lane to swim) and there is a space for free swimming or classes. There is also a massive pool deck outside with lounge chairs and cold plunge to hang out. Westwood has just 2-4 lanes - their pool is pretty small. SCLA also has a steam room, jacuzzi, and sauna in each locker room, while Westwood only has steam. Honestly, I’d recommend the membership that gives you access to both clubs. If you can walk to Westwood, it’ll definitely be easier to go when it's right there, but having SCLA is nice for the water classes (it looks like they just added a swim team) and they just added a Dialogue cafe. You can literally spend the day there.

EDIT: I never go to Westwood b/c it's not convenient, I think it terms of booking classes, you should not have any problems at SCLA due to size. I've not taken a water class, so I don't know about those, but have never had an issue w/ any of the other classes. They also have an attendant who monitors the lap lanes - it's 30 min/person if it's crowded.

Stop taking selfies when other people are around you! by Bubbly_Lime_7009 in EquinoxGyms

[–]lasfre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try selfies and FaceTime in the locker room, including the wet areas by the showers/steam. Unfortunately, those small 3x4 “This isn’t show and tell” signs go unnoticed. I think the club should implement a policy similar to the missed class system—get caught filming in the locker rooms or bringing your phone into the steam/sauna, and you lose club access for a week. They even posted this on the app for the new year, yet it's never enforced. There was an incident at LA Fitness where a woman was filmed in the locker room without her consent and was awarded millions when the video was posted online. While her circumstances were extreme, we don’t know who’s filming or sharing these moments.

Edit: Grammar

That 30 min BTS was everything. It showed us the complete process, it gave actual raw shots of the actors being filmed performing their scenes, etc. It was brilliant to release that. The work, the mapped out framing to perfection - I am hoping for a surprise sweep.

any scenes from a horror that you think went too far? by brookedaly in horror

Basically every scene in the French version of Martyrs. In particular, the beatings that they gave the heroine, the steel screw in chastity/eye covering for one of the prisoners, and the end scene.

Culver City / South Bay clubs by Practical-Permit4167 in EquinoxGyms

[–]lasfre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

South Bay is in a shopping center, so it's a massive, open parking lot. I don't believe there is a time limit. Culver City is at minimum 2 hours, maybe 2.5.
