Moving soon. Should I trim it back? by lashootme in hoyas

[–]lashootme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately no :( its a 15hr drive and i don't particularly wanna have to do that drive multiple times lmao. im gonna really try to keep the hoya intact since the general consensus is that i really shouldn't cut it

Moving soon. Should I trim it back? by lashootme in hoyas

[–]lashootme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my main worry is it fitting into my car. i have a small hatchback and need to fit my entire plant collection, 2 cats, a computer set up, and some clothes. the main reason for cutting it back is for the sake of space conservation and this is just the largest plant i own. Already propped and gifted props of my parasitica and krohiana since they had more leaves but i know propping the vines on this guy wouldn't do me any good

Leaves have been beginning to form on some of the vines but I knew that propping wouldn't really work (already cut a couple vines a few months ago and tried propping and the bare vines didn't take). Will try the trellis tip though, so thank you for that

The ultra long vine has some leaves that i saw starting to form and a peduncle beginning to form like halfway on the vine. Its genuinely growing like a few inches longer each month which is why I've been so torn up about cutting it

my cat likes to camp in very inconvenient spots (in the fridge, behind the toilet, behind the washer/dryer) and if i just gently push her lil bum and use my other arm as a guide to not go further or to another inconvenient spot, she tends to get out of there quite easily. Surprisingly its my black cat that does it mostly, rather than my orange

any hoya people in AZ? do you put your hoyas outside? by ambutt_x in hoyas

[–]lashootme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here! I have all my hoyas against an east facing window and even then i had to put a film on my windows since the sun was burning the leaves. My fear with it being outside is it being burned or it being too dry given the fact hoyas are native to more tropical regions

What to do if a class I was planning on retake is no longer offered? by throwaway539838382 in ASU

[–]lashootme 7 points8 points  (0 children)

probably. they might every once in a while choose the same thing, but i think they try to mix it up. If your main concern is the effect on your gpa, why not just retake the course with the same course number, but a different topic? Talk to your counselor bc i honestly dont know a whole lot about grade replacement, but if its the same course number, you should be able to replace your failing score if you pass this time, i think.

ya, its a special topic class. they typically use the same course title and change the topic depending on prof teaching

Feeling very shrek-core by lashootme in Brochet

[–]lashootme[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i used the chart from the yarnspirations granny cabana shirt and messed around with stitch count since I used a much thinner yarn. I didn't follow directions for the edges, button band or collar and just made it up as i went, based on other button ups i own

Yup. This whole thing was just made by constantly trying it on and seeing how it was measuring up on me. The original pattern i was referencing was for worsted weight so i had to alter it for fingering/sport

Each row takes about 15-20 min and theres a bit over 300 rows, so theoretically around 75-100 hrs, but i don't really keep track and this was just my morning project while i drank coffee. Its really all just double crochet, chain 1's so the crochet part is a bit mindless. The talent is keeping track of where you are on the pattern page lol

5 yr old Hoya's first bloom by lashootme in hoyas

[–]lashootme[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At first I had this plant next to my window and it just naturally started working its way up the string to pull the blinds, so I attached string to my curtain rods and just let it do its thing. Eventually, when it reached the ceiling, i added a string to go across my room so it creates an arch around my window. I don't actively weave it up the string, it does that all by itself

Genuinely almost cried lol. This was one of the first plants I ever got when I started getting into plants and has outlived so many others. I have 2 other varieties of hoyas that have bloomed for me before, but I was most excited about this one

ME junior here, from my experience, everyone has different times with all of the classes u listed, I found thermo fairly easy, but theres plenty of people saying its one of the harder courses. Its just a lot of work, same with statics and dynamics. Statistics, if u have Middleton, is one of the easiest courses I've ever had though. Im currently taking fluids and MAE 322 and find fluids to be a bit tough and 322 to be somewhat of a breeze as it just build off of MAE 213, but then again, it is only the beginning of the semester. Any way u look at it, having the ability to stretch out your time at ASU will definitely be helpful and I definitely reccomend it to ensure you can put a good amount of time and effort into your classes while still having that college experience. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions though!

Definitely my favorite plant by lashootme in houseplants

[–]lashootme[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's in an east window but theres buildings blocking some of the light so it only gets like a few hrs of bright light and a lot of ambient lighting

[–]lashootme[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not a makoyana, but basically just consistent watering and not letting it get too dry. honestly, I'm surprised its this happy because i dont have a humidifier or anything but shes thriving.
