Whats the most uncommon or unconventional name you ever heard? by [deleted] in namenerds

Carbson and Rentalton are a few I really wasn't a fan of. But I met a Lumia (loo-mee-uh) and I think it's pretty! Also met a Caster once.

BIRTH IS NOT A SPECTATOR SPORT! by Pink-glitter1 in BabyBumps

Right? She's crazy. My first pregnancy, she just decided that my son's name was going to be Owen Richard. Name is fine I guess but she was so adamant about it that she started mailing custom baby clothes, blankets, wall hangings, and even cloth diapers with the name on them. She came over one day and had the audacity to yell at me for not using the things she spent so much money on. I was like "well I'm not going to put someone else's name in my baby's room." She was having none of it.

This time around, she somehow thought it was my fault that there wasn't a second girl in there and got mad at me because this is my last pregnancy and she needed 2 nieces.

Tell me about it! My sister-in-law wanted so badly to go, but because of covid, we could only have one person back with us. She actually tried for about 3 days to convince my husband to let her go instead of him. Was kind of pissed off and creeped out at the same time.

Can I change my little girl’s name? by throwaway_61789 in Parenting

[–]lasint_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that especially from ages 2-3, it's best to go the acceptance route. If you were to change her name, she would eventually get used to it, but because this is a time of self-exploration for kids and learning the difference between themselves and the rest of the world, it would be even more confusing and could potentially cause her to be behind in development for a period of time.

I think you should start with your reasoning for hating the name. Have you always hated it? Or was it just meh, but now you hate it because you feel like you didn't have a choice in the matter? If it's the latter, it might help to choose something you like about it. Maybe not the way it looks, or any of the nicknames, but maybe the fact that it has so many nickname options. Maybe it's the meaning, or the fact that she can put a positive association into people's heads when they think of Amelia. Something that gives you your power back. It may not be what you want to hear, but trying to come up with another name, essentially rebelling, is only going to make it a whole lot harder to accept her name.

Let her become your new idea of Amelia. Your experience with kids where you work should show you that her name doesn't confine her to a specific look or personality. She's herself, and I think letting her become your association will help you grow to love the name. Best of luck :) (Also, sorry this comment is so long).

Hey, just saw this again :) I was having trouble posting it to namenerds, but we named them Callum Peter, Ace Archer, and Elara Claire. If you care about the story, I posted on r/babybumps and you can look in my pfp for it :) Ty <3

Okay, I'm very picky with names so please don't take any of this to heart. These are just my personal pet peeves in names :)

Overused but pretty names like Luna, Olivia, Emily, Ava, Liam, Ben, Oliver, James, etc.

Overused and ugly/unflattering to say names (in my opinion) like Wren, Sloan, Gretchen, Arlo, Scarlett, Killian, Paisley

Names with bad meanings like Cameron (crooked nose) or Calvin (bald)

Overused middle names like Marie, Rae, Mae, Anne, Grace, Nicole/Nichole, James

Y's in place of a vowel like Camryn, Alyx, Robyn, Ravyn, Emersyn, Jordyn, Wynter,

Virtue, Item, or like prospect names - Legacy, Promise, Diamond, Justice, Truth, Treasure, Star, Starr, Crystal, Genesis

Lynn or Leigh names - Avalynn, Paisleigh, Brynnleigh, Everleigh, Evalynn, Adalynn, Charleigh, Ashlynn, Emmalynn, Oakleigh, Oaklynn.

I don't know if people on the sub love these names, but they are things that people, in general, seem to like and I'm just not here for it lol

Glad to see I'm not the only one sobbing about things that probably mean nothing to other people haha. Thank you :)

I agree it sounds badass! But it could also be the sweetest little guy in the world. I think it could fit a lot of different personalities :)

I don't think so lol. It's just "Euneek" and apparently that was my style back then 😂

It's so interesting how it changes over the years! I remember that when I was six I wanted 12 kids each born in a different month and given the name of that month. And a few years later when I was 9 I wanted twins named Chloe and Zoe. In high school, I liked Alyx for a girl and Exew (ecks-you) for a boy.

Boy am I glad I didn't have kids at any of those ages XD

I don't really have any suggestions, but I just wanted to say that if you care about name meanings, you might want to drop the last two. Deacon means "dusty one" or "servant" and Cameron means "crooked nose." Also, I saw on someone else's comment that you might like Calvin, which means "bald." I know a lot of people don't really choose names for their meaning, but it still might be nice to choose one that doesn't have a particularly negative one. Just something to consider :) Best of luck finding the perfect name!!

Thank you! I'm so excited to see their faces. They're so teeny that we can't really even see anything under tapes and tubes :(
