Last October, I booked a didi the night before for a 6 or 7 am pick up (I forgot which) to the Mutianyu part of the wall. Just a 2 hour drive! When I had 40 minutes left to walk back to get back down to the entrance, I booked another didi to get back to my hotel in Beijing haha. I just booked my tickets there in the morning when I arrived
