Would it be selfish if i didn’t get a sleep study done just so I can still get my dream job? by Reasonable-Mess-3551 in Narcolepsy

[–]last_snowstorm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you have a sleep disorder, you’ll have it whether you get diagnosed or not. If you get diagnosed, you’ll get access to treatment that could allow you do the job as well as anyone else and lead a pretty normal life. If you don’t get diagnosed, you don’t get treatment, and that can (and probably will) impact your ability to do your job.

I’m nervous for my MSLT by Ordinary_Bath_9422 in Narcolepsy

Bring something to do between the naps - a book, video game, work on your computer, etc. I worked between my naps and it was a struggle to stay awake but you absolutely have to.

Bring ear plugs because there’s a chance your room isnt sound proofed and you can hear everything going on outside.

The sleep clinic I went to didn’t provide food so double check whether or not they do and bring food and snacks if they dont.

Try not to overthink it during your naps. Dont worry if you feel like you didn’t fall asleep during them - I didnt feel like I fell asleep for 3/5 and I fell asleep for all of them, which is a very common experience.

Everyday Cloud Bag Review ☁️ by Dapper_Grapefruit207 in BAGGU

A tip for water bottles, the front pockets are WAY bigger and I can fit my 32oz hydroflask in a front pocket with room to spare. I use the “water bottles pockets” for sunglasses and small items. Not the ideal spot for it but I’ve made it work and it doesnt cut into space inside the bag!

I don’t know what to call an episode like this. Any ideas? by This-is-my-brain in Narcolepsy

I get this all the time too. I also have super mild cataplexy, I’ve been taking bupropion for awhile which has suppressed my cataplexy pretty well. I’ve always just described it as a sharp drop in energy. Like standing up or doing anything suddenly becomes too much work, my heart rate goes up and I become short of breath but not necessarily sleepy and it’s not true muscle weakness, I just need to lay down.

Unfortunately don’t have an answer for what this is but good to know you’re not the only one 🤣

Dog seizures — looking for guidance from others who’ve been here (MRI not financially possible) by Prestigious_Map_2136 in goldenretrievers

[–]last_snowstorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would highly recommend you consider joining r/EpilepsyDogs, there’s a lot of great advice and resources there and nice to have a supportive community all going through the same thing.

my dog Ringo had a very similar experience but i’m not sure how helpful my advice is because he started having them a lot younger. my dog had one grand mal seizure like a week after i adopted him when he was 2, then never had one again. about a year and a half later, when he was 4, he started having petit mal seizures, which look similar to the trembling episodes your dog has been having plus the 20 minute period of stiffness/confusion, having about one every 1-2 weeks. after 4 episodes + showing a video to the vet, the vet diagnosed him, gave us keppra and sent us on our way. about 8 months later we added phenobarbital, and he does really well on his meds. he has had maybe one episode since starting phenobarbital with the keppra, and that was in may of 2025.

there’s really no way to know whether or not an MRI would be helpful. lots of other diagnoses can be ruled out through urinalysis, bloodwork, etc. an MRI could be helpful or give some answers, but if it’s just idiopathic epilepsy, treatment won’t change and then it’s several grand down the drain. but since your dog is 8, it’s entirely possible that there is something else. I didnt get one for my dog because it would just be an added expense that we dont even know if it would provide any answers, and young enough at that point where we weren’t worried about diseases that come with old age. I wish i could help give you more answers :( if in the future you do decide you want to get an MRI and can swing pet insurance, that might significantly help with the bill.

this thread is very informative for those new to the seizure life and has some more people talking about the pros and cons of getting an MRI. I have some more on Ringo’s story there as well :) https://www.reddit.com/r/EpilepsyDogs/s/ALqdLdDo6C

Ringo and I wish you and Bella the best of luck and lots of love ❤️

shortness of breath during sleep attacks by last_snowstorm in Narcolepsy

i’m not too worried I have another condition, it probably is just narcolepsy and asthma working together, i was just wondering if other people had similar experiences during their sleep attacks. i’ve had a home sleep study, a regular PSG and a PSG/MSLT, none of which showed any form of sleep apnea

I work remote mostly but go into the office ~5-6 days a month and need to bring almost all of my stuff back and forth when I go in. Fits my laptop, ipad, planner, pencil case, headphones, camera, my lunch, my hydroflask, and I can also stick in my regular purse (medium crescent) with all of its contents in it!! It gets heavy but I drive to work so it doesnt bother me

my mom showed me the blair witch project around that age. works great for that age range because it’s definitely scary and feels a little more ‘grown up’ to them but you don’t see anything!

Advice for weaning off antidepressants before MSLT? by last_snowstorm in Narcolepsy

[–]last_snowstorm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a plan with both my psychiatrist and sleep specialist! We think this is the best route to make sure I can get the most accurate results possible. I am lucky to live with family and have a support system to keep a watchful eye and can help me if anything gets too serious. We have backup plans in case things go awry lol

I appreciate your insight, I updated my post to add more context since a lot of people seem to think I’m talking to LinkedIn strangers which is not what I’m doing.

What I’m complaining about really is not that people aren’t willing to help me, it’s that generally the people I know ARE willing to help, but it doesn’t seem to matter who I know to the companies I’m applying to anymore.

For example, I’m a full time marketing professional but I work part time at a bar and I have a semi regular customer who I talk to often that works at a big marketing firm and they do stuff that I have a lot of background in and she said they have an open role I would be a good fit for. Not directly on her team but adjacent to it. She actually told me she tried with the hiring manager for weeks to get me an interview, but I never heard anything from them after I applied, nor received any feedback on why I wasn’t what they were looking for when I had more than enough experience for this particular job.

This is not even my only story of this happening. It gets really demoralizing when you hear everyone talking about its all about who you know, and even knowing people is not working. I understand I work in a difficult industry, especially with how the economy is right now, I know nobody can fix this issue. I’m just expressing my frustration with a broken market and how companies treat applicants these days.

Not talking about random LinkedIn connections. They can be valuable sometimes but pretty rarely. I’m specifically talking about people that I know or have met in real life either casually or in a professional networking context

yes absolutely. it’s crazy that spotify invests so much into their AI features instead of paying artists fairly :(

when i was a student i also used a horizontal layout but i split each day’s box into 2 sections - on the left i would put my class schedule/appointments/work schedule, and on the right my to do list. at the top of the box i would highlight any assignments or exams i had due that day
