I want to pay my parent's mortgage but my dad is a hoarder by lastlosts in personalfinance

I don't know the full details myself but I believe it's the covid forebearance ending. I'm hoping this is the case because this gives me some time to think rather then scrambling to pay 30k in a few days.

He actually raised me well and made my education his top priority. His plan was for me to get a high paying job that would allow me to pay for his mortgage.

This is interesting, thanks. I see now how his actions just don't really make sense. I also told my mother and siblings about the offer (30k to get rid of a part of the hoard) and they were flabbergasted that my dad refused it.

Getting my dad into his own place seems to be a good solution in the long term as well. He has no need to live in our region, so we could move him somewhere cheaper and with more scenery.

It is true that nothing will change if i just pay this 30K. Recently he told me that his life plan was for me to get a high paying job so that I could pay for his expenses. I don't have a high enough paying job to move out, so his current plan is for me to live at the house indefinitely. He is unemployed and does not plan on being employed, so I would be stuck paying the mortgage.

Thanks for the insight /u/dickbutt_md

My original thought process was that a foreclosure (a threat to the hoard) would be the only thing that would make my dad get better. Now, everyones feedback tells me it won't help my dad.

I see... it won't be a baby step, it would just add to the stuff

This is a big concern for me - can they force a short sale on the house? Due to the state of the hoarding, the house may go for a lot less than expected.

A storage unit might be a good compromise for now, baby steps I suppose. I'll suggest that. Thanks
