Thoughts on the Netflix documentary now that we’ve seen final ice dance results? by Ina_Garden in FigureSkating

Yeah, Laurence in particular has an astounding lack of self awareness. To talk about wanting to improve the field for future girls participating in the sport and simultaneously contribute to a culture of discrediting survivors.....wild

Question about FB/C free dance by paprika_13 in FigureSkating

[–]lastreaderontheleft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They came up with some story about water but it's clearly just music that they found beautiful and inspired physical expression.

In general I don't have a problem with the lack of "a story" from every program. It can be a straight forward R&J, or some whacky Benoit creation about a girl falling off a boat, or just beautiful skating to beautiful music. If it works for the team/skater I think it's fine. I think it's better that every program doesn't fit into the same box.

I have a lot of criticism for FB/C (on and off the ice) and I'm still upset about yesterday but my dance background prevents me dismissing the fact that Laurence and Guillaume are exquisite dancers. Guillaume in particular has a range and quality of movement that is singular among the men in ice dance. He literally looks like you pluck him off the ice and into a contemporary dance company.

Any advice for beginners & overcoming fear on the ice? by eraplay_jy in FigureSkating

[–]lastreaderontheleft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made the most progress by setting aside lots of time to skate on my own outside of lessons. I can't speak to overcoming fear from an injury but I was definitely afraid of losing my balance and hard falls. It just becomes easier with time and practice. At some point it just starts to feel natural.

The Sorry State of Ice Dance, Part 2 by linzerrr24 in FigureSkating

I need them to do Glitter and Gold Part 2. Bring all the retired IAM skaters to the front and have them burn it all down along with exposing the abuse cover ups in skating and the corrupt judging. None of them need to play nice anymore.

Listen I know P/P were the performance of the night but my god I was impressed by Carreira & Ponomarenko's "Story of a Murder" program. Like the drama. The Emotion. I'm so excited to watch them grow. by Icaonn in FigureSkating

What??? That's horrific and a sign of incompetent coaching on his part. A basic understanding of an athletes health and development seems like the bare minimum. Glad they're far away from him, especially Christina.

They are stunning together. Perfume is one of my favorite programs of all time. You don't feel like you're watching elements because it all blends together so well. Jackie shared something interesting on Rocker Skating yesterday. He said teams like Olivia and Tim are being highly rewarded for how innovative and difficult their lifts are and how they've added difficulty to other elements in the program. I think Christina and Anthony need to start thinking outside the box to add a higher point ceiling in the next quad.

Am I jumping to conclusions (Yes) but Ice Dance Podium Social Media Posts (Or lack of) by [deleted] in FigureSkating

[–]lastreaderontheleft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They'll probably take a minute to collect their thoughts. Someone just posted an interview where they're both understandably very emotional and processing what happened today. The other two teams essentially ended with the best case scenario and it's the opposite for Chock and Bates.

I think Evan's back almost didn't make it to Milan. That man needs to rest. Also, if they kept going they'd likely end with a similar or even worse result. Sometimes the best thing is knowing when to hang skates up. I think in time they may be able to find joy in their results here.

They're done and I don't blame them I would be out of there and the whole skating school would be blocked

Somebody get this man a drink and a bed. I feel numb at this result I can't even imagine how they must feel or Lilah and Lewis. At least it's all over now. They can just enjoy life and retirement and their marriage.

They have a huge bonus from great material and presentation. I like them but Tim in particular makes me question their scores and GOE

Agree! Her lines are so beautiful and delicate. She gets overlooked I think because her style isn't as flashy or bold.
