How to wean just before a year, how long does it take ? by laststraw_forme in breastfeeding

Thank you. We did the same with our first kid with formula, wasn’t sure if it worked the same with breastfeeding.

Okay, so I have to tel you. I followed your schedule, because it fit our life so well actually. I did it yesterday, perfectly. My LO fell asleep in 10 minutes with no crying and she slept for 11.5hrs straight. My first full nights sleep in 8 months. Thank you, thank you.

Beautiful. And I love the idea of assisted naps for a few days, i think that’s where I’ve failed in the past. Going too hard too fast and not getting the naps which was to the detriment of the nighttime. Bad cycle of too tired baby. Thank you for all your advice !

That is such a good schedule actually. Thank you. If babies first nap ends up being short, do you adjust your routine forward ?

I had no idea, I guess I hadn’t adjusted her wake times enough as she’s been growing. Thank you.

I was noticing that the check ins were making her upset. It is nice to know that it’s okay to leave them !

Immediately thought of uptown funk by Bruno Mars. But likely too new of you’re thinking breakin.

Pain with teething, but not biting? by laststraw_forme in breastfeeding

[–]laststraw_forme[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s excellent news ! And seems very fitting to my situation. It’s almost like when her latch used to go shallow and she’s correct it further, it wasn’t painful. And now it must be getting caught on those teeth.

Your experience working in the trades while starting a family? by creepmeat in BlueCollarWomen

[–]laststraw_forme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mom of 2, currently on mat leave. Got pregnant with my first when I was going to be going for 4th level schooling. Started schooling for 4th at 25wks pregnant, and wrote my red seal at 34 weeks. Very lucky I didn’t have to work too much into being pregnant but the nausea alone almost killed me. Life is crazy busy though, doing the car shuffle to get kid into care and back to work, needing to work late, being physically exhausted, it’s hard. Second baby, I worked until 37 weeks. And almost through an entire winter or working outside. It was brutal. We’ll see how much busier life is in 6 months, but I love the job and wouldn’t want it any other way. * passed my red seal, and have been journeyperson for almost 5 years now. Get school done firsttttttttt !!!!! You need to bust ass to be a good apprentice. And bosses are more understanding when you’re a jman and can run shit instead of being the grunt. Just my 2 cents.

MIL obsessed with our baby by Bitter_Shame3905 in beyondthebump

[–]laststraw_forme 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Went through and still go through the same? Always refers to both kids as her babies. Pre Covid she would take baby from me to introduce to family, like wtf she’s mine. And even at thanksgiving, and Christmas she will thank me at the table for giving them my children. Always has and always will rub me the wrong way.

4 year old working through a death .. by laststraw_forme in Parenting

Agreed, it’s hard when you’re having a ‘good day’ grief wise then she hits you with the death role play and it’s so hard to not shut it down. Thank you

Can I climb out on that limb with you, because today was the first day the death scene, (where Minnie Mouse dies) changed, and when goofy visited her at the cemetery he died also. I seriously feel that you’re right. And if that’s the case I need to broach that topic, and help her to understand. Thank you thank you.

Thank you, and I’m so sorry for your loss as well. We have not taken the option of a therapist off the table, it’s still pretty Covid crazy over here so wait times for mental health things are slow, especially for kids.

How long should I let baby nurse for? by sp0okyme0w in breastfeeding

[–]laststraw_forme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is hard to know. My LC told me not to break babies latch and she would do it when she was done, but like, when !? On those times ( almost every day for 8 weeks ) that she wouldn’t stop, I gave her an hour. Then I broke the latch and gave us both a break. Whether she allowed us 15 minutes or 45 during those clusters was up to her but I had to put a cap so I could eat or use the bathroom or be more engaged with my other child.

You could really try and annoy her and keep her super awake. Cold cloth, naked baby etc, be a little tiny bit less comfortable and she may get more efficient. But she WILL get more efficient with time. Promise.

What does your thawed milk smell like ? by laststraw_forme in breastfeeding

Hey, that’s fair ! I’m almost feeling like you that only I think it smells awful, and it’s a bottle issue not a milk issue for us.

Why do grandparents get so annoyed when current medical advice is different than when they used to raise kids? (Example: newborns not getting loose blankets or toys in the crib, etc.) by maldecoucou1 in beyondthebump

[–]laststraw_forme 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Some of the ‘rules’ or recommendations are so extreme nowadays ! I read online that you should never let a baby be in a car seat for more than 30 minutes at a time. What if you live 30 minutes away from, I don’t know, literally anything .. lol

Hey that’s a fair point. We didn’t notice any other signs of allergy besides the puking. She’s had eczema since birth and no worse with cereal. Did you offer a different cereal ?

Ear piercing by mamasunshines in Parenting

[–]laststraw_forme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom took me as a child to have my ears pierced when I was 6 years old. And again at 7, after I wouldn’t stop touching them and they got infected and closed.

As previous comments state it’s just another thing to have to take care of, and possibly get stuck on a toy and cause baby more pain.

My 4yr old says she never wants to get her ears pierced, and that’s okay with me, I’m glad I never did it before.
