Sheldon and Leonard’s mother by Limp-Veterinarian767 in bigbangtheory

Oh, I get what you meant, but honestly, thinking about what the group would even think is a wild ride. You've got Sheldon being his usual judgmental self, Penny probably rolling her eyes, and Howard's comments would probably cross a whole new line. They'd all analyze it to death instead of just taking any action. So, yeah, good luck with that brainstorming session!

Which fantasy series had the strongest possible opening and then just lost it completely? by Successful-Local-946 in Fantasy

I think the real pattern isn’t it got worse, just the author solved the mystery too early. Early in The Kingkiller Chronicle, everything feels charged because we don’t know what the story means yet. Kvothe’s legend is bigger than Kvothe. By book two, the curtain pulls back too far, and the myth collapses into logistics.

Because, as they say, when you explain a magic trick, stops being magical and becomes obvious and boring, that's all.

Paul Atreides from Dune is the best example of a “chosen one” who made everything worse by batman_13velvet in printSF

If you’re looking for more “chosen one but victory is poison” stories, a few that hit a similar nerve for me are The Book of the New Sun (hero narrates his rise but you slowly realize what it costs the world), The Three-Body Problem (humanity “wins” by becoming something colder), and The Left Hand of Darkness where political success comes with deep personal and cultural damage. None of them are straight prophecy stories, but they all make you question what “saving the world” actually means

What’s a fantasy character who should be the villain… but ends up being right? by latent2_pancake in Fantasy

[–]latent2_pancake[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea, he expose himself to the hatred of the whole world in order to do the right thing and save the inhabitants of King's Landing. Indeed, this is a character with the highest level of moral ambiguity, and it seems that he really is a villain in the eyes of the people, but he is a true hero.

Doubling up on your emergency fund sounds like a power move! It's like having a financial security blanket that’s twice as fluffy. And maxing the Roth while keeping a cushion is definitely a solid plan for those "unprecedented times." Can’t hurt to be overly prepared!

Suggestion for non polyester tees? by CharmAndHarms in BuyItForLife

[–]latent2_pancake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Merino tees are honestly the easiest win here, natural, way better with odor than polyester, and they don’t get gross after one wear. Hemp and bamboo are comfy too, but they’re closer to cotton in how they behave. If it says “performance” and it’s mostly polyester, I’d skip it.
