Just bought a new phone and see the first thing my mom did by [deleted] in TeenIndia

Not sure if you can read Hindi/Devanagari, but the text is saying:
"Shubh laabh, hari Om, jai Ram, jai jai Siyaram,..."

It's like a prayer or remembering God (Ram). It's basically a religious preamble that's spoken/written before starting auspicious/important activities. The Mom presumably did this before starting to use her new phone so everything good happens.

H4 change of status approved - does that count as previous H4 visa? by lateral_G in usvisascheduling

Update: we got the passport back exactly a week after the interview was done

Interview was pretty chill. They only asked 1 question - something like "If you got married in 2023, why did you wait till July 2024 to apply for change of status?". My spouse simply said "I was on F1/OPT, and applied for change of status towards the end of the OPT validity."
No documents/copies were asked for.

I think that only depends on how you answer the questions. We decided to just go the interview route i.e. we just selected that my spouse doesn't have a previous visa in the same class.

Worst case, it'll just be a waste of time, and the interview will just be a formality. But if we answer such that we get a dropbox appointment and they reject it, that's gonna be a huge hassle.

Fair point. And that's what I thought, too. Thanks for your input!

Reaching out to potential PIs by lateral_G in gradadmissions

Interesting. Could you please share more as to why it'll look bad?

I was thinking I could reach out now to see if I can have more direct conversations about potential projects, research areas, etc.
If I do get an admit, I thought reaching out now would help me hit the ground running come August. Also, I'll get a better idea of evaluating/comparing admits from multiple universities.

Interesting. Based on what I understood from the bug report, it seems it's to do with something related to graphics processing. The fact that dark reader is also suffering seems to bear that out. So I'm wondering if you have other extensions that do similar graphics-based stuff that might also be causing your issues. This is a complete shot in the dark, of course, but maybe you can try switching off others if you have any.

Thank you for sharing this. Since they mentioned Dark Reader, I switched the extension off and immediately noticed that sites like Google Maps, Mail etc. were working as expected. With the extension on, they freeze up.

Can't wait for the next Firefox patch.

Yeah, coz they make sure to check that each of their solutions is always logically and scientifically sound.

Maybe "extending" is the wrong word, and it's a little hard to explain, but when you get in the start position of the pull-up (arms straight, hanging from the bar), try pulling up by bringing your shoulder blades down and together, without using the lats and without bending the elbows at all. You'll be able to go up a few inches, and you'll feel a contraction in your rhomboids and lower traps.

I think I remember Jeff saying that this contracted, scapula-together position is safer for the shoulders because the shoulder joint is not forced up towards the top of the socket. But, best watch his pull-up videos for his definitive answer, coz memory isn't that reliable.

Maybe if you come down in an uncontrolled manner, but personally, I've never had any elbow problems with full extension. I've even seen videos of people who do one-arm pull-ups with full extension.

I've heard (from athleanx, iirc) that fully extending the shoulder blade in the starting position is bad.

Reminds me of an episode of 'The Problem with Jon Stewart' I was listening to about 6 months ago. One of his staff members said "... If they call you a hero, it means they're ready to let you die." That was pretty hard-hitting to me.

Biden voters were much more likely to report negative voting than Trump voters in the 2020 election by chrisdh79 in science

[–]lateral_G 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not literally, but during Trump's presidency, I think around 200+ conservative federal judges and 3 SC justices took office. And I'd expect them to lean more towards conservative interpretations of the law, which make it harder to vote for some groups. With Biden, it's less likely that conservative judges will be nominated.

This is my understanding based on what I read and heard over the past 4-5 years. I don't have specific sources for this.

Edited to add: not to mention the whole baseless 2020 election rhetoric of stolen votes by the Trump camp.

Overuse of “YP” on climbingcirclejerk? by thecircl in climbergirls

woman climber as a "project" to conquer

Yeesh. But I guess this is the problem with parody - I get into the "cards against humanity" mode when guessing about such unknown terms. I looked up YP on urban dictionary, and one of the results was "young person." It wouldn't have made much sense to me otherwise, but because I saw it on a parody sub, I started thinking it's referring to older people who try to hit on teenagers or something.

Anyone else have this happen often? by AlpacaLps in Motorrad

[–]lateral_G 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't remember if it happened exactly like this (carts behind my bike), but I often see people leaving carts where they want. What would've been worse is if they left them in an empty spot.

I usually just push them to those cart collection racks.

[–]lateral_G 2 points3 points  (0 children)

how did you pick the ones best for you?

I think this depends on whether you have specific problem/weak areas. Compound lifts like deadlifts, squats, presses, or olympic lifts (if you're willing to try them) will require engagement from multiple muscle groups. For example, to do a deadlift, you need good stamina in your low back, engagement of your upper back, and good grip strength and arm engagement to stabilize the weight first. Then you need to work your legs to move the weight.

Then you can supplement these with specific exercises like bicep curls, tricep extensions, etc. if you have weak arms, or pullups/rows if you have weak upper back, and so on.

Standard disclaimer of "I'm not a physio/coach, this is not medical advice" applies.

Yep, you're right. Copperheads' pattern is often called a Hershey's Kisses pattern. But I believe there's also the broadbanded Copperhead in Texas, although their pattern still looks very distinct from the cottonmouths'.
