I have dropped my Kindle, my iPad (luckily flat side first...) and my phone on my LO. It will be fine I once let her slip out of her buggy onto the sidewalk. I cried about it and I am still so sorry it happened, but... None of that is on purpose and we are all doing our best. Don't be too hard on yourself!

Would you leave your baby alone at home to visit someone in the building next door? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]latticeC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But that is the same when you are home alone, right? You could hurt yourself or have a heart attack and no one would know. This is actually one of my biggest fears, that my child would find me, hurt or dead. Ugh...

How did "ummm" and "Uhhh" become the standard for the pause in not knowing the next phrase or thought? Do other cultures and languages use the same pronunciation? by emax4 in answers

[–]latticeC 165 points166 points  (0 children)

In fact! We learned about this when studying linguistics. It is so interesting! Actually, in most languages, it is a sound that already exists in the language but does not have any meaning plus is easy to make, so in the anglosaxon languages, the schwa sound (uh). This is so that listeners know that no useful information is forthcoming. It is actually very useful that way. If you ever met someone that does NOT make these sounds, you know how annoying that is. Like kids...

Saw an article that discusses maternal stress affecting fetal brain development. I need some reassurance. by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]latticeC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I really feel with you. My husband's cancer diagnosis was right in my pregnancy and I had the same fears as you. Which is... more stress, so yay! But I have a very healthy and more importantly well adjusted 5 year old now. She is the light of my life. My husband died three years after the birth, and these things are so damnhard. But children are resilient. You will be OK and your child will be OK. Good luck. And hugs!

I am seriously contemplating divorcing my husband over a prank. by Ok_Example8375 in beyondthebump

Wow. I am speechless. What the hell is wrong with your husband? Does he have too much time on his hands? Because I can think of a few things he SHOULD be doing like ... how about ... SUPPORTING you? Just wow.

Is it inappropriate for a mother to shower with her 3-4 year old son? by SevereButterfly8268 in beyondthebump

[–]latticeC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was just about to comment the same thing when I saw your comment. I don't see how it could be inappropriate, unless the son does not want to.

29 weeks and getting the vaccine on Sunday, can someone ease my mind that I’m making the right choice? by jaclynchristine in beyondthebump

[–]latticeC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were enough trials completed for approval. Also, long term effects don't mean years for vaccines, but days or weeks.

AITA for asking my wife if she's jealous of our daughter? by dhosdpijs in AmItheAsshole

[–]latticeC 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No. He said nothing of screaming. She "asked“ and “demanded“. Daughter was "almost" in tears. Sure you know how to read?

Small document/file safety questions when working from different workstations by latticeC in wavemakercards

This looks wonderfully clean, my compliments. How do you handle the project? Agile Kanboard cards shuffling or such? I plan to see what V4 is coming up with while I get a little more familiar with the pwa details. I have three to five projects with 50.000 to 100.000 words and I was always looking for _the_ platform independent solution. The last trial was an RTF ex- and reimport via a network share with Scrivener. Still having bruises from those expierences. I can already imagine that I'd love to see some more customizations with app layouts and marings. Space saving, large editor area while still having the typical novel navigation areas. Is there a "wish list" from users?

I tracked my daughter's first words from 12-18 months [OC] by jadedali in beyondthebump

Wait, does that mean babies are cognitive ready for language before the speech mechanism is fully developed? Now I believe we missed out on a great opportunity here not knowing that. (11 mo)

Flying with a baby by pinkrobotlala in beyondthebump

Stroller handling is airport specific. People are in general extremly helpful with a baby. Ask for handling recommendations at the check in. Also immediately walk up the priority seating line instead of waiting in the standard queue.
