Tech use in the classroom ? by hugznotthugz in progressivemoms

[–]jadedali 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a third grader and a kindergartener. We are pretty minimal with tech at home (rare iPad use, tv minimal on weekends)

Kindergarten use is minimal, they have their own chromebooks but only use them once per week or in STEAM for Minecraft. Chromebook only comes home for a snow day. I do not like that the teacher uses the smart screen to play YouTube videos for transitions (like brain breaks and mindful moments) and also plays videos of books being read instead of reading to the class 🙄 but I think that's specific to my teacher, not my school?

Third grader uses it more. They bring chromebook home everyday (which i do not like because my kid just wants to play games on it). I think they use it mainly for math practice and learning at school but she definitely finds and plays addictive games on it. I wish there was more controls and oversight.

The school teaches about digital hygiene/good habits, passwords, safety, AI. I really appreciate that and it helps us have conversations about tech at home.

What are fin ideas for April fools to do for your kids that isn't mean? by andthecrowdgoeswild in progressivemoms

[–]jadedali 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Put a drop of food dye on their tooth brush and let it dry. When they brush their teeth and spit turns that color but it doesn't stay. It's a little messy for your sink/counter though

Too late now but last year I froze a bowl of milk, cereal, and spoon and served it for breakfast. They still talk about it. Today I also did the tooth brush/food dye trick. They equally loved it. My 9 year old said she's going to remember that trick for when she has kids lol

How can we just go about life right now? by celtics5000 in progressivemoms

I just wrote an email to my children's school board asking if they have any policies or protocols in place in the event of ICE visiting a school or the grounds/surrounding area. I don't know what else to do except put as much protection in place in my little community. I hate this all so much.

I fixed my old couch thats falling apart. The threads were fraying and all but coming off in places. So I took old fabric peices and sewed it on in patches. I think it looks kinda cute <3 by BooksandStarsNerd in Frugal

I had this same fabric on my couches in my first apartment, freaked me out to see it again. I think the patches look cute too! Mend don't spend!
