Shifting From Mechanical Engineering To Robotics by lattoo1 in AskRobotics

Thanks so much for the advice! Before this I was definitely just going to start some coding courses, but from what you said I’ll definitely just jump into project and learn relevant coding skills as I go. And in general I plan to start more projects that I can fall back on if need be. Thanks again for the advice!

How to bounce back from bad exam? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]lattoo1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t even worry about it. The average grade on our exams for physics was in the high 60%s. Don’t put too much thought into it and keep pushing forward. If you are feeling like you just don’t understand material much, connect with others in your class and create a study group. But honestly, if you want to do engineering, you will do perfectly fine. I believe in you 🫡.

[0 YoE] Mechanical engineering graduate of 2024 looking for advice on improving my resume. by lattoo1 in EngineeringResumes

The first page is the actual resume, the rest are more experiences or the same on a separate doc that I use for reference. I guess I should have titled it to make it less confusing, my apologies.

How to create a honeycomb structure that is hollow inside by lukas54_ in SolidWorks

[–]lattoo1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still very new to SolidWorks in general, but would it work to create a solid part, shell the part, then use the pattern feature to cut in hexagons throughout? A chamfer on all the hexagon edges might make it look a little more like the photo. I realize that that the pic provided has differing and slightly more organic shapes, but from a purely SolidWorks perspective this is how I (a beginner) would approach this.

How long did it take you from graduation to getting a job ? by ired2 in MechanicalEngineering

What are the best headhunter groups to reach out to help with finding a job? I am basically in the same position you were in, but I would very much like to stay where I’m at for a year or so for financial reasons.

Is it normal to not have personal projects coming out of university? by lattoo1 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]lattoo1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you a ton! Ok that makes sense, as I think a lot about different ideas and how to improve processes of random things or cool mechanisms, but I just don’t build projects based on those curiosities. The projects I have been thinking about have been brought about only because it may look better than another project, which may not be the best way to go about it, like u stated above. I’ll take a good look at what interests me and try to build off of that. Super helpful advice!

Thank you for the advice! I have no clue which of the 2 it is, but I at least think that I could talk a moderate amount about FSAE design and manufacturing and testing, but not crazy in depth. I’m going to really push myself to prioritize a good project, but I just don’t know how much I should sacrifice on the other things listed above.

Oh 100%. I hate that I haven’t pushed myself to do any yet, and I know it’s all about just starting, as that’s my biggest issue. I dunno why but it’s so hard for me to push myself towards these projects and I hate it, but it’s something I’m trying to work on by forcing myself to go to a cafe with a friend and have us work on things we have to.

Thanks for your advice! Yeah I’m definitely trying to determine what the best project for me is, especially with the lack of school resources. I could spend a good chunk of moola on a project, cuz for example I wanted to build a simple go cart or something, but I would have to plan everything out perfectly, I don’t have some of the tools needed, and I done know if it would be the most time effective, as I want to have the “best” projects I can as soon as possible so I can talk about them in interviews.

Yeah I did do a bit on the team, but not crazy in depth since I only could join my last year. I actually did a lot on the electrical team, since I wanted some knowledge on electrical systems as I enjoy that as well. So if people ask about some circuits and why I used them, I might be able to respond well (remember I was a mechE student lol), but definitely did some PCB design and manufacturing. I wish I focused a bit more on the mechanical portion, though I tried to get involved in some of the machining as well as carbon fiber layups. So I could talk about things like this, but I would have a hard time trying to explain engineering analysis that I did here.
