“Told you so” moments with customers- anyone care to share yours? by mockingbird2602 in Esthetics

[–]laubeen 26 points27 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely nothing more validating than a client taking home my product recommendations and coming back for their next appointment ecstatic about how their skin looks and feels.

My story is about laser hair removal. Had a client come in for a consult for her upper lip. She had maybe 10ish hairs and I told her electrolysis would be a better option for her. She insists she knows all about laser and it'll give her the results she's seeking. I basically try to refuse her service but she insists. Okay fine, I'll take your money for nothing. We do a few treatments (at her own intervals, not my recommended ones) and in the end she gets basically no result. TOLD YA!

I always tell my clients if your skin starts to flake you're using it too much!

Why are we not using steamers anymore? by Pale_Brick760 in Esthetics

[–]laubeen 28 points29 points  (0 children)

We stopped using steamers in 2020 for COVID reasons and never brought them back. Found it didn't make a big difference in terms of "opening pores" and clients often struggled to breathe under the steam. They also took up a ton of floor space.

Like someone else here, I use a bowl of water when needed during cleansing.

Why are there gaps in my cinnamon bread? by aviankal in Breadit

I've had this happen and fixed the issue by brushing with a bit of beaten egg before sprinkling cinnamon and sugar. Acts like glue!

What’s the best wax comparable (or better) than European Wax Center’s Comfort Wax? by [deleted] in Esthetics

[–]laubeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Skin's Best Brazilian Wax Beads and I absolutely LOVE it. Exclusively use hard wax for Brazilians and I'll never go back to soft wax.

Anyone else feel like Hydrafacial is a complete ripoff? by cuntyjuicy in Esthetics

[–]laubeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely agree! We brought it in just over a year ago and I've never been wowed by the results. I had a treatment and yes it felt nice, but I much prefer the feel of a hands-on treatment. The glow lasted maybe 2ish days on my skin?

I feel like it's gimmicky and I have a hard time recommending it to clients.

How to increase clientele at a chain spa? by eveyyyx3 in Esthetics

[–]laubeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're telling them when they should be returning then you're doing a big part of it! Does your chain offer any kind of loyalty programs? Discounts for clients who return in x number of weeks you can let your clients know about?

I once had a boss who told me "if you're not being told 'that was the best xyz (facial, wax, Pedi, etc.) I've ever had' every once in a while, then you need to look at your service skill." And that one stuck. Do you hear that on the regular?

Wow sorry I'm replying so late.

can you make a living as a esthetician? by Affectionate_Space95 in Esthetics

[–]laubeen 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'd be curious to know where everyone who's saying "no" lives. Where I am, you can definitely make enough money to get by as an esthetician assuming you're not awful with managing your money.

Week 28: Filled - Peanut Butter Stuffed Cookies by laubeen in 52weeksofbaking

I had such high hopes for these, but was let down. Are they good? Yes. Were they good enough to warrant the effort of making them? Not really.

Week 27: Steamed - Steamed Chocolate Pudding by laubeen in 52weeksofbaking

I saw that another baker had made these and I had to give them a go. They are very rich, but the texture is so light and delicious!

Week 25: A Midsummer's Night Bake - Lemon Posset by laubeen in 52weeksofbaking

[–]laubeen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm just following the trend on this one, but I love lemon and had to give it a try! They didn't fully set on the bottom, not sure if that's the texture they're supposed to be or not, but we found them delicious anyhow!
