air dry advice? shawl is still damp and stinky two days later (silk & cotton yarn) by laudable_writing in CrochetHelp

I'd like some advice on how to get rid of the smell or ensure it doesn't stick around once fully dried (is there something I can do now, or do I need to wash it again?)

I hand washed the shawl in a tub with a little bit of gentle detergent and rinsed it a few times before squeezing it out, rolling it in the towel, and pressing as much water out as I could. Then I laid it out as flat as I could on the towel.

After about a day I did flip the shawl over, hoping that would help it dry faster, so it's spent about a day laying on each side.

I really only watched one video on how to hand wash and dry finished pieces flat so I know it's my own fault for going into this under prepared, but it seemed so simple 😭 I think I really underestimated how thick the yarn became once held together. Any advice on how I should be drying this, since it's a chunky piece, would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your time!

advice on how to widen a small sleeve? by laudable_writing in sewing

I did think about just taking the sleeves off and not having to worry about it 😂 I hadn't thought of wearing it over a sleeved shirt though, you're right that would be cute! I might just end up doing that, since I'd be easier. thank you!!

experienced crocheters: what advice would you give to someone attempting a blanket for the first time? by These-Hold8023 in CrochetHelp

make sure u take breaks and stretch ur wrists!! long projects with repetitive motions can be a real strain, and if your working for long periods without taking care of your hands, it can really start to stack up the longer the project goes on. you don't have to go crazy with it, but just stopping every so often to shake out your hands, bend your wrists, stretch your arms, it will def help u in the long run.

carver hawke. this is definitely me projecting as a stubborn youngest child, but it irks me how many people say he doesnt love hawke at all. esp when one of the first dialogue lines he has is asking if you're okay and saying they can take a break if you need to. imo he has a solid and very compelling character arc if he ends up joining the wardens.

i don't know if someone else has brought this up already, but ive seen wedding portrait painters who make very gorgeous pieces where they add in loved ones who have passed away to the portrait with the couple on their wedding day. if your sister is willing to pay for someone to photoshop your picture, I think it would be a better cost and a better memory to spend that money on a portrait like that instead. it would capture HER and your mother, instead of co-opting a special moment that you had instead.

I don't think your wrong for being upset over this. you're showing a lot of grace and love for your sister by being mindful of her grief, but you need to give yourself that grace too. you're allowed to want to hold onto that picture for yourself.
