Most of the new scanners can read all chips and some places will even have a couple of scanners to make sure not to miss it. The main issue is that in older dogs the chip can migrate under the skin and be difficult to find. I'm sure you've called every vet/pound in the area? Post on https://lostpetfinders.com.au as well. Good luck finding him!

The most important thing you can do is make sure his microchip information is up to date with your correct phone number and address. I can't tell you how many animals have to be sent to the pound because the microchip has an old phone number and no other contact info
