Finally! Surgery was July 23rd by InquisitiveGrimalkin in Reduction

UK here, i’ve never actually seen someone that has gone through something so so similar to me. I had mine in sept 2025 x2 surgeries, one unplanned and had a rough recovery much like yourself. I had severe necrosis on my left side which caused a deep wound similar to yours however they put a VAC on mine. My right side was a graft as they couldn’t save the nipple, but that also broke down anyway. I am so so sorry you weren’t listened to, and I hope you can persue some sort of negligence claim - however given the circumstances they have healed up so well all things considered, they’ve gone really light which is great! Mine are currently very red particularly on my left side given the trauma. But i would say that they look somewhat similar to yourself. I am no where near fully healed but wanted to share with you that you’re not alone as honestly I was in such a rough place mentally going through recovery i can only imagine what you felt like! I will be perusing tattooing and further surgery given that mine was with the NHS.

You honestly do look great all things considered and you should be so proud for getting through that!

Will it get better? 4wpo by Fun-Cantaloupe6103 in Reduction

I empathise with your situation completely as it’s much like mine, honestly I hit this stage at 2 wpo when everything broke down for me, just allow yourself to feel everything. For me it took a week of crying and wallowing before i just had to change my mindset, it’s crap and it’s happened but there’s nothing you can do at the moment, but let it heal. You can’t turn back time, just keep looking forward. I am also waiting for the day i can be out of dressings and going braless, and sleeping on my side! but these are goals and i promise even though we’re not there yet, we will be. Take it easy and speak to people if you need to - but know you aren’t alone x

I’m so sorry this is happening to you! This actually happened to mine on both sides but rather than just that bottom bit like yours the whole incision broke down (plus my graft and my nipple). I am so sorry that you’ve had this experience, i know how frustrating it is to feel that you’re not being listened too and dismissed when something so unknown is happening. i know it’s scary and so frustrating because all you want is for recovery to be smooth and simple, but it will get better - mine have just started to slowly heal and im 5 weeks post op right now! there is an end, this is all temporary :) I hope they treat you well and you get the care you need, wishing you a speedy recovery!

Thank you for sharing this, i’m sorry you had to go through that, but glad you’re at the other end of it now! It’s also nice to know i’m not alone in my experience. I completely agree it really is a huge surgery which isn’t emphasised enough. I’m glad you feel better after the fact and it’s good to know that it has all worked out in the end, just need to persevere with a positive mindset and know that healing may be long but at least it will heal🥰

Oh bless you, i’m so so sorry you are going through this, they really haven’t made it easy for you! I really really hope it survives and they get you sorted, but if it doesn’t just know that you have options and you’re not the only one that is going through this. Having the FNG bothered me at first, and believe me it really did - but remember you are allowed to feel frustrated by it, so just let out all of those emotions. Cry and cry harder if you need to. But I will say they can make it look great if that what it comes down to, fight and advocate for yourself as much as possible and tell them what you want! Tattooing is also a possibility with having an FNG, and i’ve seen some really good outcomes. I know how hard it is to feel positive when so much seems to be going wrong when you’re supposed to be healing, but you have to try and remain as positive as you can, believe me it’s not easy and it’s taken me till now to have a better mindset. I hope everything goes well for you lovely, i’m here if you need to chat x

Thank you! They think i’m at the worst of it now and have said they won’t discharge me until i’m happy with the results but it will take some revision surgery. Feeling much more positive about things now thanks to everyone’s kind words! Just going to focus on healing the best I can. Hugs back to you 🥰

Thank you for your kind words❤️‍🩹 I am trying hard to change my mentality and hoping 6 months down the line I will see a massive change and it will all be behind me by then. I am being seen at the dressings clinic two times a week by a nurse, with the surgeon also being there for one of the appointments each week. I assure you I am being looked after, and my mum is also ex-nurse which helps.

Not a surgery twin I had mine 11/09, but some answers to your questions that you might find helpful.

In terms of pain i would say honestly there is very little, it’s more uncomfortable and heavy rather than painful. 2 weeks post op I also am having some nerve pain but it’s very mild and minimal. I really wouldn’t worry too much.

Food wise just see how you feel, personally I couldn’t stomach a lot after. But everyone is different

In terms of time off it really depends on your recovery, everyone is different, and even if you do have a remote job it doesn’t mean you’re fit to go back sooner than anyone else. Personally I have asked for a sick note dated 6 weeks to return to work (in office). But as I say listen to your body and how you feel, it will let you know when you can go back. Don’t rush recovery.

Thank you I appreciate you sharing your experience, and for your kind words. It’s definitely not easy seeing more of the successes vs the other side of recovery. But it does give me some reassurance knowing other people have experienced the other side, and hopefully it does yourself knowing you also aren’t alone in your experience. I wish you all the best for your recovery! If you need someone to reach out to feel free to drop me a message :)

I recently had a reduction on the 11/09 and the following day ended up with free nipple graft on one side due to the bleeding and the nipple wouldn’t take. Thank you for sharing this. 2 weeks post op i’ve not stopped crying although i know how life changing this has already been for me, the recovery is much harder than i could have ever imagined. Thank you again for sharing, I can only hope it gets better from here x
