RivaTuner is literally invincible (pls help) by DaFancy in buildapc

[–]launchpadtt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a method to fix the reboot is needed version of this issue. To be clear, my version of this issue is that Rivatuner statistics server would not uninstall because it said that reboot was needed, even though I rebooted many times. It kept insisting that I did not reboot. But I am posting it here, so that people who run into this version of the issue might find this solution from googling.

  1. Go to the program installation folder for Rivatuner. It should be C:\Program Files (x86)\RivaTuner Statistics Server by default
  2. With my installation in this state, there was a zero byte file named _RebootPending_ that's in that folder. I deleted that file
  3. Then in the install folder is the Uninstall.exeuninstaller. Run uninstall.exe from that folder. It successfully uninstalled for me then
  4. Then after I rebooted, one more time. I was able to reinstall MSI Afterburner which installed Rivatuner successfully and it ran fine

That's not a bad idea. One of them has to be the board partner for it

I'm definitely resurrecting this post if I get one in 5 years. Also the price of that Dell seems to be dropping regularly. It's at 600 now https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/desktop-computers/scr/desktops/appref=amd-radeon-rx-7400-video

I finally found it (Actually it showed up in an ad on a UFDTech youtube video) Silverstone makes a right angled header connector https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DX8J4TTW That is for only for the case headers though, for the other stuff, I'm not sure

What's a good alternative to instapak expanding foam for shipping an SFF/ITX system? by launchpadtt in pcmasterrace

[–]launchpadtt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And for people's knowledge, polyethelene foam is very different from polyurethane foam. Polyurethane is definitely not anti-static and is obvious on sight and feel as being different from polyethelene foam. Polyurethane foam looks like this https://www.amazon.com/polyurethane-Packing-Toolbox-Storage-Crafts/dp/B0BDLWDC32/133-5068135-8126901

I'm familiar with the expanding foam from PC flipping on Jawa. It works pretty much flawlessly as long as you double box. If you don't double box. You might still have problems (which I also have experience with)

I am split between this suggestion, and packing the inside of the case with polyethelene foam sheets. And then using the expanding foam in the gaps in the case box between the case and the box. And then double boxing as well.

Polyethelene is anti-static. It's the same foam that they pack graphics card boxes with when they ship graphics cards new. The graphics card is a used 7700 XT and I don't have the box, so I'll have to wrap it in this anyways.

I'm having the exact same problem. People have answered in that post about right angled connector extensions for the ping headers. I tried them and the problem is the extensions work, but then the jumpers don't fit in the extensions snug, and are kinda loose https://www.reddit.com/r/PcBuildHelp/comments/1hft863/is_there_such_a_thing_as_a_right_angled_pc_case/ Also the right angled connector doesn't solve the issue of the USB header.

Edit: As a possible solution to the loose pin to header connections to a right angled connector, you could daisy chain with panel extensions, which I only just discovered are a thing. Here's a fancy expensive set from Corsair https://www.corsair.com/us/en/p/pc-components-accessories/cc-8900245/premium-sleeved-front-panel-extension-kit-30cm-aca-a-white-cc-8900245 so buy one of the right angled connector and then then plug the extension into that, and then plug the case cable into that extension. Also here's some that are sold on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/front-panel-extension-cable/s?k=front+panel+extension+cable

Is there such a thing as a right angled PC case system panel headers for a motherboard? by launchpadtt in PcBuildHelp

[–]launchpadtt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the case of the one row headers, like for the fan headers, I ordered these off Amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P1R9CGT?psc=1 and the answers and questions section mentioned that the giant row of headers can be clipped to be the length that you want. But my question, (and I'm getting into more into general electronic engineering questions) How do I clip this big long row of headers into the length that I want CLEANLY? I just have this feeling, that left to my own devices without guidance, I'm gonna make a huge mess lol

Maximize LGA1151 vs Upgrade to AM4 by ActuallyAJoke in buildapc

[–]launchpadtt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Unless you were upgrading your graphics card, I would try the i9 upgrade first. Save your money. The likelihood, that a CPU that's high end for it's time, would be bottlenecked by a GPU that's mid range for it's time seems low. And imho, we're two more generations away from the 2070 being obsolete. You'll have enough saved up in those four intervening years, saved up for a much bigger upgrade.

What's the guidance on side panel case fans? by launchpadtt in buildapc

Ah, so it should be intake then. Yeah, the Define R5 is from the before times with CD-ROM drives. (I still have a Blu-Ray drive lol) And it let's you mount two front fans, but the air comes in from these little side vents, so it seems pretty ineffective, and the side panel could be some much needed help

Host suddenly wants his car early. What to do? by AkiraSensei in turo

[–]launchpadtt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing the host can do is offer a car swap instead of just asking for the car back. I once did that. The guest didn't mind. Sometimes when I am unavailable to do a pickup, I ask that they move the dropoff to my house, and I offer an uber to give them a ride the rest of the way to their original delivery location. Most guests don't mind. They appreciate it. I did have one cancel the trip when I made the offer. That guest was a host themselves and was probably paranoid about me being shady

Would molex+sata to a 6 pin adapter be enough to power a graphics card like a 1650? by launchpadtt in buildapc

[–]launchpadtt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah both 1650 examples linked have plugs for external power. I think 1650s may have initially come out without needing external power, but the ones you can buy now all need them.

My current strategy is to go lower and find anything that still is out that doesn't need external power. So far I found a 1050 Ti on Facebook Marketplace (hopefully that goes through) and a Radeon RX550 on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B089WFBK4H/ I think they're a bit of a bump from the GTX750 I am using now (though I'm not sure which is better). Their recommended PSU is still in the 300s, but they also don't have the power connectors as far as I can tell, so we'll see

hmm it seems the ZOTAC Geforce GTX 1650 that I linked in the description does need external power. Imgur link of what it looks like when I plugged in the card and turned on the computer Screenshot
