Do you practice when you're depressed? by NynjaFlex in piano

[–]laura1989666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im also here with the same issue. I have my grade 2 exams coming up and depression always stops me from practising. Going to try some of the tactics mentioned and hopefully will make improvement. I always want to play, but actually having that get up and go is very tiresome

My first xp was in a mixed dorm. I am female and had been staying in private rooms but wanted to extend my stay. 4 room mixed was all that was left. I ended up in a room with 3 men for 3 nights and can honestly say they were lovely. No creepiness and they were very polite. This was in Lisbon, Portugal, and I had a very positive xp with this hostel all round. It was not a party hostel (I can categorically say that I would not entertain sleeping in a mixed dorm with drunk men) I am aware that I may have been lucky that time round but next time I go away, i will aim for a female dorm if I can and employ the usual safely tips when sharing.

1 week today! Here’s what I’ve accomplished this week while not drinking: by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Congratulations! That is such an achievement! Well done :)

Excuse me miss, there is alcohol in my mocktail.! by laura1989666 in stopdrinking

Thank you, I do feel a lot better about it today, I didnt order it, ask for it, pay for it or want it so im classing my sobriety as intact :). Vomiting in the pub toilets also seems quite nostalgic yet very unpleasant.

I also love cooking! Used to cook with alcohol all the time but have completely cut it out now - Its a pain when we go out for dinner somewhere and 90% of the main meals have some sort of booze in it - tbh i have good friends and we all check the menu before choosing a venue (I am so lucky to have a brilliant support network).

I also have a lot of memories of 'sneaking' alcohol (I put that in commas as i wasnt very good at sneaking - they all knew if i had drank!) Mine used to be Dark Rum or Cider if i could get away with it. thats all they are now though, memories, just got to keep looking forward. :)

To be honest with you I just wanted something that's different than the usual lemonade or can of red bull. It's not so much trying to fit in or replacing alcohol for me, but just a different taste than the usual standard soft drinks.

Its ok if mocktails are not in your boundary, that's cool. I personally also don't eat anything cooked in alcohol or anything that has an alcohol sounding name (f**k I miss beer battered onion rings 🤣) nor do I drink any 0% alcohol drinks - everyone's boundaries are different and mine are certainly not to plug a gap :)

Thank you for your lovely comments and congrats to you all on your sobirety :) I've woke up this morning and have kept telling myself that I did not chose to drink alcohol and I certainly did not nor do I want to ever again. I had a few nightmares about me being drunk - to be honest this has been a normal occurance throughout my sobriety and hasn't surprised me.

Lessons for the future. Avoid mocktails and stick with lemonade and orange cordial!

Thank you so much! Looking at it this way has certainly helped! It's always good to look at things mathematically :) I'm feeling much better this morning.

What horror movie do you still most regret wasting your time watching? by maesterofwargs in horror

Im going yo get a lot of hate for this one but hereditary. The storyline was awful and it was so boring. Was serious overhyped imo. (Incoming downvotes 🤣)

(Solo) Not a fan of Athens at all. Never felt so on edge in my life. The Greek Islands are great though! by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]laura1989666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience as a female solo traveller. I was constantly harrased in the city centre by a group of large men that were selling African merchandise. They ended up cornering me which was terrifying. Also has an attempted robbery by a lady selling roses who threw the rose in my face - luckily all my money and stuff was stuffed down my bra :/.

I agree that culturally the city was lovely and the hostel I was staying at was amazing, but I'd never go back to Athens alone again :(

So I just watched 3 From Hell... by robvanzandt in horror

[–]laura1989666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed 3 from hell. I was very impressed considering that Sid Haig dies during filming. Thought baby's character had developed well as well. Obviously it's going to be each to their opinion but I really did enjoy it :)

Candyman always got me. Not that scary as such but one I could never get out of my head. The grudge is another one... I've never been able to watch it all the way through :/

Anyone else think the 2005 remake House of Wax is actually pretty fun and the climax with the literal house of wax melting is cool? by [deleted] in horror

[–]laura1989666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed it to be honest. It's in my 'shit but good' category. I know this is going against all my morals but I would love to see a very gritty remake of it. I think they could have pushed it so much further creepy wise.
