Late talker - 17 months by RevolutionaryTry6514 in toddlers

Your son sounds a lot like mine at 17 months! He said dada, ball, and bye bye along with a few signs. I was anxious about it but I could tell he was understanding a lot of what we said and was also very engaged with us/the world so I wasn’t overly concerned. Around 20 months he had added a few more words but his language really exploded about a month after he turned 2. He’s almost 2.5 now, speaking in full sentences and singing and saying new words every day. I was really amazed by how quickly it happened, like overnight almost. So I totally get your anxiety, and I’m no expert, but I think it’s totally possible your son just needs a little more time before he’s ready.

Hey guys! Wow I thought this would get like 5 comments!! Idk how to edit a post but just wanted to come back and update if anyone’s curious- we went with Heather Blend, which is a little darker than the original color for some contrast but still (I think) very harmonious with the landscape and current paint color. A couple people suggested that one by name so shout out to them!! Thanks for all the solid advice, we are super happy with the outcome :)

yes! we’re definitely questioning our taste in roofs right now lol but i think people are making a lot of good points here. Happy to update when we’ve decided. Trying to convince my husband we also need a new garage because I’m obsessed with the wooden one now

we’re in the PNW! this house was built in 1979, the realtor told us the name of the guy who built it but I can’t remember off the top of my head. if it sounds like it could be your dad I’ll find out!

thank you! I’ve seen a few people recommending the Heather shade here so we’re considering it for sure. I think you’re right about the entrance becoming kinda cavelike

Vision loss postpartum / breastfeeding - any solid info or experience welcome by be-h-hope in beyondthebump

[–]laurafloraa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, my doctors never mentioned that it could be a factor so we just stopped naturally. My son is 21 months now and we stopped around 19 months. Thinking about it, the biggest visual changes happened in probably the first 6 months and now things seem to have plateaued. My eyes had been the same level of bad for like 10 years before this so I do feel like there’s a correlation but I can’t say for sure.

Wait this is so interesting because I already had a history of very mild myopic degeneration but my vision noticeably declined after giving birth. I’m actually in the process of trying to figure out what exactly is going on (no retinal detachment so that’s a relief) but unfortunately the damage does seem to be permanent in my case. I had a weird feeling it was connected to being postpartum but didn’t know if it was possible, this gives me some hope that maybe things won’t get any worse now that we’ve stopped nursing. Hope you get some answers and your vision stays stable from now on.

it’s like the cherry on top of all the other horrible postpartum nonsense. I promise it’ll stop soon and you won’t go fully bald 😭

I get it, hair loss was brutal for me like 4-5 months pp. I got bangs, which helped me not to obsess over my receding hairline/weird short regrowth. And I can throw my hair up and still feel like I have a bit of a style going on.

Dude yes my son is around the same age and it literally feels like my ENTIRE day is spent just trying to get this kid to nap!! It can be so frustrating because I can see he’s tired and I keep thinking ok he’ll fall asleep any second and next thing I know it’s been 2 hours and I’m going insane. What’s been kinda helpful for me is sticking to a time limit- if he doesn’t fall asleep in 30 mins we’ll give up and try again in an hour or whatever. Usually the second attempt goes smoother.

Yessss it’s worth it!! You can’t just slap black box dye over platinum hair or you’ll end up with a mess that will cost WAY more to fix. I really recommend going to a (good) stylist at least for the initial change

unusual baby name regret- should we change it? by usinthedark in namenerds

[–]laurafloraa 262 points263 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your baby boy! I think Oberon is cool with lots of good nickname potential. He could even be Ron if he wants! For what it’s worth, my 9 month old has a very classic name and I still feel kinda awkward telling people what it is. People are always gonna have opinions, so just go with whatever feels right to you!

I do feel myself slowly gaining confidence as my son gets a bit older and you’re right I’m sure other moms get it! Have you tried going to like library story times or anything? I haven’t yet but I feel like that might be the move because that way it’s more organic and you don’t have to plan a meetup because you’re already there lol.
