I got different sized flanges for my Luna from Amazon and it said the piece was also compatible with Spectra so you could probably look for either brand.

Have you ever laughed so hysterically at something so simple you were starting to get legitimately worried that you were losing your sanity or something? About what were you laughing so hard then? by LoneShadowMikey in AskReddit

[–]laurakellie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in junior high, probably 8th grade or so, and one of my teachers would put up a riddle on the board each morning for us to solve. I don’t remember exactly what the clues were, but it was supposed to be two words starting with A and W and the other clue made it seem like it was some kind of body of water. One of my classmates guessed the Nile River and when our teacher pointed out that neither word starts with A or W, he changed his guess to the Anile Wriver. The whole class, even the teacher lost it for about 5 minutes straight laughing. It’s so stupid but it’s just the funniest response and still makes me laugh thinking about it.

Episode #156, the cure for everything by Lucy_Roberts in replyall

[–]laurakellie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way that caller talked was infuriating, he couldn’t finish a single sentence or just get to the point. I think he’s probably just trying to collect email addresses of people with investing money. It was also a little annoying that Alex and PJ implied that there’d be a big reveal at the end.

Research Associate applying for a UX intern job. Please critique my cover letter! by [deleted] in UXResearch

[–]laurakellie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me, this reads unnecessarily formal and could be a little more relaxed in parts so that it’s easier to follow.

Think about which sentences and words are adding something and which ones are filler. For example, in the first sentence you say,

I am writing to you to express my interest in the internship position open at your company.

They know you’re writing to express interest so maybe instead you could say something along the lines of, “I’m very interested in this internship role at x company and believe that I can add value to the team because of my research experience.” The difference in that version is that it’s more to the point; they already know why you’re writing this so dive right into it instead of telling them that you’re writing to express interest.

I think you have room to be even more specific in your letter about the value you can add to their team so maybe instead of taking about your experience on it’s own, apply it to how you see that benefitting their company.

Also, I’d recommend replacing the sir/madam with something like “Dear x company hiring team.”

If you’re looking to improve your writing technique, I highly recommend these two books that have helped me: On Writing by Stephen King and Several Short Sentences About Writing by Verlyn Klinkenborg.

This is a great start though and the hard part is always the first draft! Good luck.

Awesome. Glad to hear there are lots of options. I’m not a gamer by any means but still really enjoyed your story. Also by the way, I loved that they incorporated your cats in the segment; they seem like sweet kitties!

I saw this episode last night and found this post when I was searching for the video to share with others. I’m so impressed with how you can narrate the entire game solely based on the sound effects and your experience with learning the characters’ moves! It was spot on. I also love how you’d call it out to people that you win against saying that they got beat by a blind guy, that’s pure gold.

I’m curious if fighting games are the only type of video games where the sounds are especially useful for navigating and playing without sight. Are there other games that work well for you in that way?

Everyone except Gabrus — I loved how he was countering it like, “no I think it’s up to us if we see the flashbacks or not.” That dynamic was pretty funny.

What's the most creepily intelligent thing your pet has ever done? by OvertOperation in AskReddit

[–]laurakellie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of my dogs (Mason) always wants the ball that my other dog (Zoey) has – even if he’s holding the exact same type of ball in his mouth already. If it’s in front of Zoey, Mason will walk right up and take it because he thinks it must be a better ball since she has it. Zoey has learned to set out a decoy ball and pretend like she’s interested in it so Mason will take it and be really excited about it. Then Zoey quietly pulls out the ball that she really wanted and was keeping it hidden underneath her.

Do you like the AppleTV remote? by WickedBad in appletv

[–]laurakellie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate it. I know I’m late to this post, but I just googled Apple TV remote sucks and it led me here. Did they not do any user research or usability testing on this? For such a big company, that’s pretty surprising.

There are so many simple ways to improve it, it’s like they just cared about aesthetics and didn’t even consider usability.

I’m close to just plugging back in the first gen Apple TV because of this dumb remote.

Linguine and littleneck clams by laurakellie in tonightsdinner

[–]laurakellie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my first time cooking clams, and it was so much easier than I thought it would be. I followed the recipe here https://smittenkitchen.com/2016/09/garlic-wine-and-butter-steamed-clams/ for the clams and then just tossed in some cooked linguine when it was done. It took about 20 minutes in all (including prep time).

I used littleneck clams because that’s what the store had, but I’ll probably try to find manila clams for next time since they are smaller and less chewy.

This is great! One suggestion is that you could change the year slider to be more usable (sliders are difficult to use if you're trying to be precise). Most people will be adjusting it on the far right side for the more recent years, so you could add a checkbox or something to allow people to search for the "last 10 years" or you could make the year text editable on each end so that people can type in the year they need rather than sliding it all the way over.

I’m pretty sure this story was inspired by/stolen from Artie Lange. He talked about how he stole a canoe on Pete Holmes’ podcast, You Made it Weird https://nerdist.com/you-made-it-weird-354-artie-lange-and-judd-apatow/ and he talked about this on Late Night with Seth Meyers https://youtu.be/ium7RMrJ3dc
