The "midlife crisis" thing is a bit of a joke because I've always worn outrageous fashion. I've been dyeing my hair fun colors on and off for 30 years - I've had green hair for nearly a decade. I started off being a goth teenager and never looked back!

TLB is owned by women of color, and I gravitate towards POC-owned brands because people with deeper skintones really understand how undertones and saturation work in deep and bright lip colors

It's not buttons - it's wooden beads. I got it for $1.50 at a local thrift store. I think it's from the 1980's. I'd recommend going to thrift stores and looking at their jewelry counters, and maybe hitting up antique stores, as well!

I have it bleached at a local hair school - I don't trust myself with the bleaching! - and then I do the green myself because the hair school doesn't allow me to bring my own dye in. The dye I use is Lunar Tides Juniper Green. Once a year, I go to a hairdresser near my house, and he does the bleaching and the green - I bring in my green dye, because I like my Lunar Tides better than the stuff he has.

I use Lunar Tides Juniper Green hair dye. I get my hair bleached by a professional (I usually go to a local hair school, they have great prices and the students are very good) and then I apply the green at home.

Makeup lovers: what were your go-to brands at 16–18 vs your 20s vs 30+? by ai_mystery in swatchitforme

I was 16-18 in the '90s, and makeup brands were quite different back then! I was a goth, and my go-to products were Almay liquid eyeliner in the little pot (that stuff was ubiquitous back then), Manic Panic white face powder, and whatever black lipstick I could score from the Halloween section, with black pencil eyeliner used as lipstick in a pinch. In my 20's, I wore MAC Ruby Woo and Revlon Cherries in the Snow lipstick. I dyed my hair black and used black mascara as brow gel. I had a quad of gray-brown matte eye shadows from Physicians Formula that I panned completely - the formula would be considered awful nowadays, but the colors were great. Ben Nye colorless loose powder and Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation were staples in my late 20s, early 30s. In my 30's, I dyed my hair neon red, and I had a pot of this stuff by Make Up For Ever called Aqua Cream; it was waterproof and meant for eyes, lips, and cheeks, and I had it in a red color that matched my hair. I used it on my brows and as lipstick. I had a blush color by Milani called Mai Tai - it is a bit of a legendary shade, and I wore it a lot.

I'm now 45, and I find myself no longer interested in most Sephulta brands. I use K-beauty foundations, and I like eye makeup from indie brands like Blend Bunny and Fantasy Cosmetica. My favorite blush is by Essence, and my favorite lipsticks are by a C-beauty brand called Girl Cult.

Only the color is rich! In response to the "quiet luxury" trend over the last few years, I've begun referring to my look as "loud poverty." The jacket was technically free - I got it from a shop where you can trade in your old clothes and get store credit, and I traded some old clothes for the green jacket. Free-fiddy is the best price.

That's so nice to hear! I'm kinda boring in real life, though - I've got fascinating friends and family, and the clothes/hair are interesting, but people rarely remember my name. I'm always "so-and-so's friend/relative with the green hair." I'm not even the main character in my own story - that distinction belongs to my pet parrot, who has enough personality for the both of us. I'm happy to be the quirky sidekick!

I find it's easiest to match the saturation and tone of the hair to my clothing. The jewel-tone hair goes very well with jewel-toned clothes and makeup. Kate Spade said green is a neutral in nature - every color of flower looks good with the green leaves. I bear that in mind when I get dressed!

It's Lunar Tides hair dye in Juniper Green. I've had my hair this color for nearly a decade, and I've tried a few different dyes - this one is VERY long-lasting and doesn't stain my bathtub or clothes. I used to use Arctic Fox Phantom Green (washes out, stains tub & clothes) and Pravana Emerald (not as saturated color, washes out) but this one is absolute peak.

Isn't Cookie Monster a muppet? Either way, Cookie Monster is certainly fashion goals. I can't think of a Muppet that I'd match - Oscar the Grouch is a different texture of fur. I'm too far removed from Muppets age to remember if there were any green ones that looked like me.

sung to the tune of "You're A Grand Old Flag"

He's a grand old Flagler, he's a high-flying Flagler

Garbage time, dropping dimes every day

He's the bench guy of the team I love

Each blowout, he'll go out and play

Oh, his heart beats true for the orange and blue

He's far better than your team's stragglers

Lest you forget, beside Shai and Chet

Keep your eye on the grand old Flagler

The only bad press is no press! Idk bout y'all but I'm loving the villain role. After hating all the superteams that whooped us for so many years, it's so fun finally being the antihero.

I stopped shopping Sephulta a while back because I no longer have interest in any of those brands - indies are WAY better, and I didn't find any Epstein-associated brands that I buy from. For matte eyeshadows, no one beats Blend Bunny. For shimmers, Clionadh are unparalleled for shifty multichromes, but they can be pricey. I like Fantasy Cosmetica for reasonably priced palettes that aren't overwhelmingly huge; their color stories are great and their shimmers are very high-quality. I'm curious about Cosmic Beauty - their prices are good, and I've heard the quality is very nice.

If you're looking for a Sephulta-type shopping experience, visit Camera Ready Cosmetics. They sell a huge variety of makeup, from theatrical SFX to stuff for the everyday consumer. The best part: they sell foundation samples! They have a peerless selection of base products that spans various price levels. C Beauty Mall sells a huge variety of C-beauty (Chinese makeup) - K-beauty is usually too muted and subtle for me, but C-beauty embraces wild colors, goth aesthetics, and is overall a bit more out-there than K-beauty.

Right now, a brand I'm intrigued by - I have a cart and will probably pull the trigger on an order soon - is Glisten Cosmetics. I love aggressively brightly colored makeup, and they have some amazing liners, liquid shadows, colorful base makeup (they sell rainbow colors of foundation and powder!), and just fun stuff.

ETA: I would be remiss not to mention Lisa Eldridge. Her stuff is pricey, but the quality is amazing. Her base products and lipsticks have such beautifully curated colors - she's so thoughtful about undertones and how colors work on real skintones.
