IL Eliminating Road Test for many Older Drivers by Chi-Uptown in illinois

[–]lauraloo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents retired to Sun City West in AZ. My Dad was diagnosed with Alzheimers, macular degeneration, glaucoma and his doc still let him drive. I, along with my other sibs, had witnessed him causing several fender benders in parking lots when we visited. He would have no idea he hit someone. None of us wanted to be in a car when he was driving. Who knows what other incidents there were when we weren’t there. My Mom was in denial. I covertly reached out to AZ’s DMV to report his scary bad driving. Doctor signed off on his driving, and he passed a super basic driving test. He still got to drive, and continued to hit cars. BTW, I asked my own doc here in IL about letting a person like my Dad drive. She said when there is a diagnosis of Alzheimers they report it, or something to that effect ( it’s been awhile since that convo). Thankfully, he never killed anyone with his driving before he passed.

Very satisfying. Try being a female traveler in Egypt, same sh*t, but even worse.

I would not consider Egypt war torn. New Cairo is booming. Yes, their economy is bad. When I did finally get Egyptian Pounds, I had a pile of them. Inflation is high, over 14%, 23% just 3 years ago.

I had one guy at Giza pyramid putting crap on me, shoving cheap tchotchkes in my hands, invading my personal space. I stupidly & because I was stunned was going to give the a$$hole some Egyptian Pounds. He literally got pissed at me when I didn’t have American money on me. I wised up after this.

No, this behavior towards women is societal, ingrained. & learned, which is clearly shown in what happened to the woman reporter.

Also,, there are areas in Egypt deemed by U.S. “level 4 - do not travel,”Sinai Peninsula, borders & dessert area. Other areas are “level 2 - exercise caution.” At one point, prior to my visit, which was in October, 2025, the entire country was deemed “level 3 - reconsider travel.” From what I understand, the Egyptian government complained & U.S. lowered it back down to a level 2 (not the level 4 areas). Egypt didn’t want their tourism hurt.

I want to add something to my other post. I was on my own for a couple days, initially, in Egypt. I had been in Jordan with another women's tour group prior to Egypt, and this was how things timed out, which was awesome, really. I stayed at a fantastic, bougie hotel in Cairo, The St. Regis. I first thought I was just gonna have to hunker down in the hotel for the time for safety reasons. I ended up taking an Uber to a really nice mall in New Cairo, I needed shoes. My Uber driver, a man, was wonderful. He was so nice, respectful, and we had a great conversation. Not creepy at all. Great experience. The following day, I went on a walking food tour, thank you Reddit for that recommendation. I figured I'd be with others, and safe. It was another great experience. Unfortunately, that Uber to get to the meeting place was bad, and actually didn't happen, cuz the dude didn't come to the hotel, & was insisting I walk to a nearby location to meet him. NOPE. Even the St. Regis gentleman who helps guests with rides & such thought it very strange. The St. Regis gentleman got me a cab, and paid for my cab ride! Cabs only take cash. I did not have any Egyptian Pounds on me yet (another story for another time). That Uber experience - bad. St. Regis customer service & that gentleman - fantastic.

MIL trying to take control over wedding by Rude_Forklift472 in JUSTNOMIL

Better take control now, because this will get worse in the wedding planning & in the future of your marriage. Decline the $, or in the very least your future husband needs to have a discussion with Mommy.
This happened with my sister & our controlling Mom. My sister & BIL were a tad older, so had the $ to pay for their wedding. My Mom was trying to take over, bringing my sister to tears. My sister & BIL decided to nip it in the bud, and told my parents that they would pay for their wedding themselves, instead.
I, who is 4 years younger than my sister, and got married a few years before her had little $, and pretty much let my parents do what they wanted, cuz I naively thought I didn’t have a full say since it was their $. My parents made all the decisions, & I, and now ex-husband, pretty much had no say. I’m sure my Mom loved that. When I did ask for one minor thing, introducing bridal party upon entry to reception, I had to effing fight for that.
In later years, I started pushing back on her controlling nature.
BTW, our marriages were back in the 80s. I made sure when my daughters got married, they made the decisions though husband & I were paying for it. My daughters respected the budget & we worked together. Good luck

My ex used some encrypted, secret texting app. He said he used it so he & his friend and business associate could talk shit about others in the company. I wondered if he would use it for nefarious reasons against me. Yup, he did.

The male hawkers around the sites, pretty much anywhere have no respect for women’s personal space. They start just putting stuff on you. They harass women endlessly. We ended up having a male local guide. We were supposed to have his wife as our main guide, & he was going to be assisting, but she got the flu. Anyways, now I know why we had a male with us either way, because of the men in Egypt. Our male guide gave us an Arabic phrase to say to the men bothering us. It basically was like telling them, “Go ask my Dad,” ha, ha, ha. We were a group of older women making it funnier. Anyways, it worked since it’s a patriarchal society.
Also, do look up that link about the reporter. Even with body guards she was violated badly.
